No way he isn't a Blackfyre.

Why do think Varys didn't tell Kevan Lannister Aegon was a Blackfyre before he killed him?

Could Varys have pulled a George Costanza on old Kev?

Seems like a stretch

I think he wanted Kevin to feel somewhat content in his death. That explanation shows that he truly does it for the realm to put Rhaegar Jr on the throne. If he told him he was a Blackfyre, then he would know that Varys was merely on a path of vengeance. I do think he meant it when he said he had nothing against Kevin and he felt bad about doing it, although I'm sure he had none of that toward Pycelle before he killed him.

Martin has been setting up Mace Tyrell as an oaf for four books now. With the build up of Tarly as the ultimate general it is only a matter of time before he defects or betrays Mace. Notice in the epilogue of ADWD he continually plays off Aegon and the GC as a non-threat, almost to the point of suspicion.

I'm iffy on what will happen between Aegon, Tarly, and the Tyrells. I think that Randyll despises Mace, and is looking to usurp him as lord of the Reach. However, the other Tyrells besides Mace (Margeary and QoT) are definitely looking out for the survival of their house and are very cunning. My bet is that Margeary continues to be Queen, but will now be Aegon's.

Aegon will sit the throne by the end of TWOW, no doubt in my mind. The question will be is he good or evil? At this point it is unknown.

EEhhh, he's no Joffrey or Ramsay. I just think he'll sit comfortably on the throne while Dany and Jon win the support of Westeros by defeating the Others, and with them figuring it out that Aegon is a Blackfyre, Dany and Jon will overthrow him.

He didn't want his "little birds" knowing the truth.

Damn. That would be the third king she's married to. (4 if you count Renly). GRRM may be setting up Margeary as a sort of reverse Henry VIII situation.

BTW: You guys might already know this but I've just discovered the episode reviews on Tower of the Hand last week. Here's the one from Ep. 6. Tower of the Hand Review .

I don't agree with all of the opinions but it's pretty well done and interesting stuff.

I agree w this.
Varys wants the lil birds to think he was telling the truth to a dead man. He's as slick as his nether regions.

From your TotH review:

I really liked the scene between Sam and Gilly, both in terms of acting and in terms of foreshadowing.

That too. Really good reason why he wouldn't tell Kevan to his face.

More like 75% of book 3. Season 4 will be a downer other than a few episodes

I think they'll also start books 4 and 5 in Season 4. I bet the season ends with Cersei burning down the Tower of the Hand and Tyrion meeting with Illyrio.

Makes me wonder how many sample chaps we'll have by S5...

Does anyone remember the VM Six-Skins preview chap from Dance...how different it turned out to be from the published prologue?
At this rate, we could have a totally different book by time "Winds" is released.

Just wanted to let you know Hugo, you can add me to this week's official Hugo's list in the nonreader thread (using the PC term since they take offense to Hodors). I've already read 100 pages today of book 1 .

You better be a fast reader.

I figure reading 5 books will take me a while, but I did read each hunger games book 2 days/book . Asoiaf is definitely more involved and obviously better quality than a teen series; but, I don't find GRRM's writing frustrating like Tolkien. I think it also helps that I've seen season 1 twice so I've kind of been flying through it. GRRM definitely places greater emphasis on Lyanna in the books than on the show, which leads me to agree with R+L=J.

Assuming I finish all 5 books within the summer months, waiting for book 6 is going to suck. I have no idea why people aren't rioting more that its taken him this long to finish the damn series that he claims to have known the end game since day 1.

Honestly I would draw it out as long as possible, you're gonna have to wait for book six longer if you read it fast.

I think we need to grab our pitchforks and demand him to finish the series.

GRRM is not your bitch

But seriously, the wait definitely sucks, and waiting the 5 and 6 years for AFFC and ADWD definitely made me enjoy the books much less on initial reads because of that.

But that's what other authors and in particular other good fantasy authors are for.

After watching Stephen King totally screw up the last three books of the Dark Tower series when he pushed them out really fast I would tend to not want to see Martin rush things.

Can''t blame a dude for making money or enjoying football. On the flip side the fricker needs to stop editing books and going to every freaking convention on earth.
