Some of you are buying into the stupid dribble that other jealous fan bases spouted. Tyrann has good cover skills. All cornerbacks get beat at times. It's just that Mathieu was such a lightning rod thanks to his tweets and trash talking that every single catch on Mathieu was cause for celebration. Mo Claiborne got torched at West Virginia. Patrick Peterson was beaten many times, even in his last year. Nobody calls those guys overrated. Mathieu was only a sophomore last year, don't you think he could get better? The passes Bama completed, he had good coverage, they just made great plays on the ball. This year if they tried to squeeze the ball in, it might get picked.

I'm not ready to cancel the season, but losing Mathieu hurts.

It's going to hurt but you have to look at our entire big picture.

1)Our schedule is easier this year

2) Everybody who played last year should get better in theory. That means Sam Montgomery, Mingo, Logan, Freak are all going to be better and a more dominant dline. Easiest way to forget a mediocre secondary? Dominant the trenches and make the QB run for his life.

3)LBs should be improved. Not sure how they can get any worse than last year

4)Offense will be better. Regardless of how overhyped Mettengberger could be, he's definitely an upgrade over what we had last year. We don't need options in our offense when we can pass the ball and finally add a new dimension. We might not have a running QB this year but we don't need it. HB draws will drive a QB crazy when you're throwing all over them.

We'll be ok...

of course it is a big loss

he was a starting CB with a lot of experience, and will be replaced with a freshman CB with no experience

our CBs went from being one of the strongest units to a question now

but I think he is more replaceable than Reid would be

How many career turnovers did Mo or Pete cause? How many career punt/kick returns for those guys? I think Tyrann is past both of theirs numbers in turnovers, and tied in returns. HE STILL HAD 2 YEARS OF ELGIBILITY!

Better pro, probably not. Better LSU football player, probably so.

No doubt, LSU is still a National contender. I was just fed up with the LSU fans repeating stupid Bammer logic about Mathieu not being a good cornerback.

And had he stayed and played, you don't think he wouldn't have declared for the NFL after this season? Sure he would have. So at best, we had just this one more season with the H-Badger. I have a feeling, based on who remains, that LSU will do pretty well at CB this year, regardless.

How in the hell do you know? Have you seen his "replacement?"

1 more year equals career NCAA record for turnovers caused. Maybe one or two returns for a td. Whoever plays cornerback now, may play very well, but he will not be as good as Mathieu. If they were better, Mathieu would be on the bench.

Dude is not better than Tyrann. If he was, Tyrann would be on the bench.

You guys don't really expect Mathieu's replacement to cause 7 turnovers and score 4 touchdowns do you? LSU might be better in other areas this year, and we might can cover up for the loss, but we are not better without him.

I agree, kid was a stud from day one. A lot of fans just assume the next guy up will be equal to Tyrann. Claiborne and Peterson were not ready to play from day one. They were groomed into the position. We are throwing some inexperienced guys out there to play and lets hope one or two of them can hold up to the pressure and the grind of the SEC.
