PFT Florio is a lawyer so he is good at translating the legalese...
That statement may completely accurate. No “offer” may have been made. But it’s entirely possible that the league has made it known that, if such an offer would be acceptable by Vilma, such an offer would be made.
Here’s why lawyers make such hypothetical offers. If the league were to officially offer an eight-game suspension, then Vilma could try to negotiate the number down to four. By couching it as a hypothetical, the number stays at eight, period. No further reduction.
And the league also can deny all of it if anyone ever blabs about the non-offer offer being made.

All I can say about PFT's report is its assumption is wrong. Should have contacted me before putting that stuff out there.

@wyche89 I bet Vilma rejected an offer and the NFL is like "Never happened." Make sure you ask the NFL for permission b4 replying.

Yeah the NFL wouldn't lie would it.
Here is how it works boys,
NFL lawyer, well if I were to convince the NFL to reduce your clients suspension to 6 games if that something your cleint might be interested in? (He already has authority by NFL to offer 4 games but hold back something to Negotiate with.
Vilma's lawyer; I will discuss it with him and let you know. (Probbaly surprised or taken off guard here)
That is an offer guys but not an actual legally binding settlement offer. I hear that same shite every week. (So they are not actually lying when they say no offer was made.)
Now if Vilma said yes, then they would transmit an official twenty page offer with all the fine prinr, and we would hera that they are in discussions about a settlement. You still would not hear about an offer as one of the terms of the official offer would be non-disclosure.
So we can deduce from all this is that Vilma didnt like the intial "offer" and they leaked it to the press. Meaning it was too law or he is just pissed and resolved he will not be playing this year.
As far as being innocent, prisons are full of people who are innocent of the crime they were convicted on. Ask any lawyer...

I'm thinking Vilma has a very good lawyer. They are catching Goodell in every lie he is making.

Only reason all of this is going on with all the punishments is because the nfl is facing serious law suits from many retired nfl players, and the nfl is doing everything they can to show they care about the players being healthy beforeany of the court cases start. That's my opinion but really believe its correct

I firmly believe this is 90% of the reasoning behind the unprecedented punishments. The remaining reasons are about doing the right thing and decreasing league violence etc. This has been the culture of the league for years and suddenly RG wants it gone? To the extent of year long bans? Ok.

@Edwerderespn
NFL strenuous denial of Vilma offer matched by intensity of sources insisting matter of semantics. Vilma interested in winning, not settling

Vilma better be sure Fujita, Hargrove, and Smith all don't take any NFL deal. I can almost guarantee you the NFL floated this deal to Vilma, then Vilma told them to F off. Now the NFL will be going to the others and offering them No Suspension in return for admitting that there was a bounty system. If any one of those players takes that deal, Vilma's case in court is about done.

that irks me. they better all stay strong!

The only one who might crack is Hargrove. The way Fujita has denied it makes me believe he won't crack for just 3 games. And Smith is still on the team so he'd never do something that stupid.

Remember when this place used to be saints talk? In the past 6 months it's been bountytalk, goodelltalk, parcellstalk, breestalk, and now vilmatalk. Not that I have a problem with that. Current events will dictate the discussion.

That is the only one I'm worried about too. I think if nobody caves in then all suspensions will eventually be dropped by September.
