Powerman, you know that's not true!! True unemployment is so much worse. Thanks for your explanation though.

Well I haven't run the math on the 163K number

But I know if you added something like 2000 jobs it wouldn't be enough to keep up with population growth for the month

All ask from the same people that support Obama is to put him through the same litmus test they are putting Romney. I am not a big John Boehner fan but he is 100% correct when he says Obama and his staff have no idea of how the real economy works.

Well, folks have to admit that this is a good bit better than Bush's "jobless recovery!!!" with 5.3% unemployment in '03-'04...right? Harry Reid, CBS, NBC, and ABC wouldn't exagerate.

I can hardly wait to see this good news splashed across the evening news broadcasts for the next several days. Maybe they'll do a side by side so that we can see the benefits of the Obama plan.

FWIW:
quote:

According to the United Nations, 4,247,694 babies were born in the United States in 2008, the most recent year data are available.

So you would need a pretty substantial net job gain to keep up with population growth

AP radio news just reported the #'s excitedly as "More jobs!" then provided the tiny caveat that the UE rate was up BUT "anyway you look at it hiring last month was the best since February."

I am not arguing with you at all. In fact, I completely agree. But, I am adding this just for a more comprehensive picture:

In any given month, there will be some people with jobs that die, some people who retire, and then some people who are newly entering the workforce.

So, after you factor all of that in, there still need to be job growth just to stay even because of the net working population growth.

I bet Obama and his group will not mention the revision of the June numbers which shows only 60,000 jobs created. What can we expect out of an administration that has a staff of only 8% working in the private sector?

Somewhere, a liberals brain just oozed out of his ear. Don't worry though, they'll be on here to tell you that you hate gays. And you're racist.

The number is something like 200k a month added to counteract the birthrate and retirement rate right now.

Plenty of people are feeling the pinch now, and I can certainly sympathize with them.

I'd hate to be a 2012 graduate trying to enter this workforce.

They are rather quiet this morning. Could be they are carpooling to the nearest CFA in hoping to seek out some strange (and you can interpret that any way you want to).

The Labor Participation Rate dropped from 63.8% to 63.7% - any drop in this rate is not good at all.

The U-6 unemployment rate increased from 14.9% to 15.0% .

I posted here last night that the jobs figure would be somewhere in the 135k-157k range. ( I changed the high side from 165k to 157k just before hitting submit - drats, I would have looked good on that one, since the highest "professional" prediction was 144k from one of the big banks' economic gurus, and the average prediction was 100k). I was , however, definitely wrong in predicting that U-3 would drop to 8.1% or maybe even 8.0%.

The Austan Goolsby "plant" on CNBC was shameful and pathetic. About what one would expect from the Chicago Mafia crowd however. To say what he did shows how desperate things are at the White House.

I recognize your premise, but want to make clear to others that the two jobs revisions are done monthly, not at two-week intervals.

Bush left a mess that will take eight years to fix. The teabaggers are sabotaging the economy to hurt O's re-election. Europe is causing problems for us with its debt issues. You're gloating, you teabaggers want the economy to tank because you care more about the election than about the country. War on women. Chik-Fil-A.

To be fair, while the June new jobs total was revised downward from 80k to 64k, the May figure was revised upward from 77k to 87k - so the net change in revisions was only -6k.

Don't they both go together? If we didn't care our country then we wouldn't be concerned about the election.
