Are you for or against "showing your cards" early?

I think our running game will look really similar to last years, minus options - why fix what's not broke?

What does Coach Miles do in the passing game though. If you're CLM, do you air it out in the first three games (assuming the Washington game isn't close), and make teams game plan for that/allow Mett to get his game timing down, or do you show as little as possible?

I think if I'm CLM, I show pretty much everything in the passing game, and maybe DON'T show the new wrinkles in the run game.

JM2C.....

Thoughts?

I don't think there is much to gain by trying to "hide" anything. We just need to work on our offense, whatever that may be. Of course you save a few trick plays, etc for later on.

I laugh my arse off at the beginning of the season every year with all of the post about how we are going to really open up the offense in a big game. What you see by game 3 or 4 is probably what you are going to get.

Yeah I don't think there is any point in hiding anything. I mean you would think there are going to be some specific game by game wrinkles such as that 4th and 1 reverse 2 years ago. But I think you have to just run the offense.

Why hide anything, we're breaking in a new starter at QB that needs game experience so that when we do get to a big game he's not gunshy. Hell show whatever you got and build up a 30-40 point lead then call off the dogs(a little) because we need the work before we get put in a jam.

Coaches generally tell you the "whole play book" was available, and I pretty much believe them.

I'm assuming that college ball is at least somewhat similar to high school ball in that whatever you're doing in the last game of the season has been being done by about the midway point, but have no idea.

I will say this....it seems like a long time since we've anticipated a season by wondering what the offense will look like - seems like we've known every year lately about what it would look like, and one thing's for sure (AND THIS IS NOT A KNOCK ON JJ!!!!).....

Mett's got a skill set that we've not had since JR, and those were some pretty fun offenses to watch.

The secret play book is still waiting to be unleashed. New ways to get the ball into the hands of our playmakers.

I see what my passing game can do in a real game.

I see how much I can trust in my QB to throw down the field without major mistakes from my 15 to 40.

I see what my QB does in the red zone.

So yeah....I show what I got from the getgo to make sure I know what I got.

Oh yeah...I stay away from motor bikes and hot blondes working in my office.

No. When you have a powerful football team with play makers all over the field on both sides of the ball I say make the other team stop you.

I think they will be cautious. Short feild and our running game means the first 3 games could get ugly in a hurry. Jamatcus didnt play every down of every game in 06, neither did flynn in 07 before seccg. Starters will be pulled just like any other season. Hard to believe mett will have huge numbers unless he goes off in the first half. Up by 30-40 no reason for mett to play.

I think we have at least 4 outstanding running backs and an offensive line that is as good as there is in college.

What we will see is a power run game with a little passing now and then. Will we utilize play action more this year than last? Yes. Will we see more vertical throwing if an opponent is putting 8+ in the box? Absolutely.

But if you think Miles is suddenly going to become this sling it everywhere coach - you are going to be very disappointed.

The schedule couldn't have possibly worked out any better for us this year. Open up with a team that you can use to get some work in against live competition. 2nd game is one that you can't be caught sleeping on or it may bite you on the arse. 3rd game is one where you can clean some things up before heading out on your first big road test. Then a sandwich game with Towson where you can fix anything you need to get fixed before the meat of the SEC schedule. By the time we roll into Florida we should have a pretty good sense of what we're doing offensively. Couldn't have drawn it up any better.

I also think its fine to let younger guys play in the first few games. You might actually need them come week 8 when injuries/fatigue sets in. I just dont see the coaches doing much different. You just hope mett makes the throws when called upon. But of course i see him throwing it more than 5-10 times a game like we saw few times last year wit lee and jj. shite that ole miss game we attempted under 10 passes if my memory serves me rt.

As long as we save the halfback pass for the game at Auburn again, I'm fine with anything.

Bush league IMO. You win games by executing sound football. Try to fool them with play calling? Yes. Adding a new formation or two to catch a team off guard? Yes. Making an effort to minimize plays called in order to keep everything a seceret? Meh.

exactly... there's nothing that a team can do in one week's preparation that will stop LSU.. the only chance they have is their training/condition during their offseason program.. LSU's offense is not 'flashy', CLM and co. would rather wear you out all game by pounding the rock, then taking over in the 3rd and 4th quarter (see UGA, Ark, others from last year)

The OL will be a strength and we won't have to use numbers for that strength to be expressed as we had to against the better teams on our schedule last year.

This is because of a natural talent progression as well as the use of play-action as a credible threat for a defense. Also, the single-high safety won't be possible with Mettenberger's ability to read and audible.

The amount of bad plays you see us run will be far fewer because of the ability to read and check out pre-snap, as well as the ability to read post-snap & check-down post-snap.

This will make a world of difference in our offense. Period.

Work the offense. Throw the ball. Announce to the world that this year's Tigers can pass effectively.

Doing so will move people off the line so you can then run over them whenever you choose.
