My belief is that Paterno fired Sandusky in 1999 after the initial allegations and warned him to never coach again...which is why Sandusky's career ended at age 55, in it's prime, and after coaching all-Americans and top ranked defenses for 22 years. Interesting that Sandusky, who was a hot coach, never applied for other jobs and never accepted any he had been approached about, even though he was in his prime with a tremendous 22 year PSU resume. Paterno told him as well that he would never be PSU 's head coach too, which was Sandusky 's aspiration. Why he was allowed to use the facilities aver being fired/resigning...who knows.

People keep asking this but maybe Sandusky retired because work was getting in the way of him fricking kids. Obviously he didn't lose any of the access the job gave him and he had more free time.

No question...just a belief...the timing is interesting though. Of course, the investigation into the initial allegation needed to happen at that time too. PSU can't be blamed before they knew, but for subsequent offenses, they got problems legally

nice silver lining, but not reality.

A person that is sicked out and pissed to the point of firing a person over something like that, doesn't continue to let said person have an office in the building and unfettered access to the facilities to parade victims around or to use current players as bait as LaVar Arrington was.

Find Arrington's comments that when some deets about Victim 4 came out, specifically that Arrington was the victims favorite player and times of the incidents correlating with visits to PSU campus and players, Arrington said he realized he knew the victim.

If I had to put $ on it, when the allegations first came out Paterno brokered a deal that Sandusky would retire, and it'd be kept hush hush. Paterno enabled and assisted way too much to have been put off by Sandusky. It's my opinion that Paterno dabbled in diddling himself.

This.

Penn state knew Sandusky raped boys so they gave him an office and more free time. Way to go.

No way to sugar coat Paterno's actions since 1998. It simply does not make sense as to why this scandal got as bad as it did. Paterno had the power at PSU to tell the President, AD, BOTs, etc to frick themselves and he was going to the authorities to preserve the integrity he spent the past 50 years of his career building and teaching to his players. He chose to turn a blind eye, and this is what his legacy should be.

Sandusky must have had something on someone at the University
He wanted to run a camp at another university somewhere and they denied him based on the 98 deal
