With us winning the lottery, there hasn't been much discussion about the name change. So I was just wondering if there are any updates on that process?

The only update is that one of the guys that has created popular rebrand artwork and is trying to sell his designs to the team says he was told the team will likely be the Hornets next year but what is normally a 2 year process will be cut to 1. So expect a rebrand in 2013-2014.

What the stickies thread about free agents and our current roster. Guess I never thought to look in a free agent and offseason thread that list a bunch of players an salary cap issues for discussion on a name change. F u too!

I was leaning towards not wanting a name change before we won the lottery. Now I'm totally against it.

This 1y thing was repeated by the TP and to me independently. This seems to be the goal. Getting it out for this season seems to not be the goal. The Thunder rebrand was this quick but was a little ramshackle. For instance, they didn't have a mascot for a few months.

It's not really the same situation though. The Thunder changed because they were moving cities. IMO, there was NEVER a chance that the name change would occur for the upcoming season.

I agree the likelihood was always low for many reasons including the one you allude to: they had to leave their brand in Seattle to settle the lawsuit and break the lease in Washington.
ETA: I was sort of tossing in some detail I got from my own experience and a Thunder writer I had on The Swarm when I subbed in for Joe and did a rebrand show (available for free download . . . I'll get the link if anyone is interested).

All I will say is I hope they change to me it just doesnt feel like it is a new Orleans team. It's been years now and I still catch myself saying Charlotte hornets and still find people that have no clue there is a NBA team in new Orleans
