Does he look smart enough to stash any of it?

re: Detroit man gambles away $1.5 million accidentally given by ATM

It was given to him? He intentionally went to the ATM and withdrew money up to over 1.5 million. He knew there was no way in hell he had that kind of money yet took it. That's stealing. The bank is fricking stupid, but just because the victim in a crime is retarded doesn't mean it's not a crime

do you know how many atm trips he had to have to get 1.5 million.

Makes you wonder what he ran up in ATM fees.

15 months in jail... and when he gets out his bank account will still be 1.5mil in the red.

Did not click the link, but surely this guy is having to pay the bank back, yes?

1. Bank error in your favor for $1.5M
2. Bury money and claim it was lost gambling
3. Serve 5-15 months in jail
4. Dig up money and move to Caribbean

I always felt that the person shouldn't be liable for this. Banks fault, they should be responsible.

Wow. A few years back, someone stole my grill off my back porch. I was so pissed. Now I realize that it was my fault for leaving it outside where someone could steal it. Even if they had caught the guy, he should still be allowed to keep my grill because it was my fault, anyway. I guess it just depends on how you look at things.

Now I realize I was wrong all this time.

As stupid as BoA was here, they don't deserve it.

Bank loses money.
Gambler does time.
House wins.

Everything seems to be in order.

15 months for 1.5 million? I think I might take that deal

Finish reading the article. He needs to repay the funds. He's not getting off. He and his family are now fricked. He has to spend 15 months in jail and then when he gets out needs to repay the $1.5 million he no longer has.

quote:

In addition to the recommended 15-month sentence and order to repay the funds, the U.S. Attorney's Office has suggested that Page be prohibited from gambling in any capacity.

Wouldn't be a good idea. Most countries have extradition treaties for this, and the ones that don't are generally not places you'd want to live.

Not the same at all.

Now if you put your grill on his porch and he continued to use it as if it were his own; yea I think he's ok.
Or to make it more accurate to this situation then if you trusted your grill to a friend, who put it on some dude's porch then who do you hold responsible for that? You blame this guy for using a grill that was put on his porch?

I think he'll probably sign a promissory note and promptly declare bankruptcy.

If he's smart, which is questionable at best.
