What part of Montana?

Gardiner North of yellowstone. Went in 2011 and it was sweet. Got a good deal on next year trip and couldnt pass it up.
Ive tried transferring to Montana since I went up there. Gorgeous country is an understatement. You havent seen black until you have gone through a dense pine forest at night, and you havent seen stars until you have seen them on top of a mountain.
This trip is horseback. Spend lots of time riding/glassing etc. Got Mule deer and elk tags. worth every penny
ETA:
Going with my father. We went in 2011 and he didn't get one. Recently he was diagnosed with Parkinson's so I want to make sure he gets in all of his hunting adventures before if gets to hard for him. I really could careless if I shoot one on this trip.
Next stop after the elk is Pheasant hunting for a week.

I think that is what he wants to do. He used to hunt quail in mississippi with a dog before all the quail got destroyed by fireants and yotes. I know he likes hunting with the dogs

So jelly. I tried to make such a trip this year but it wasn't in the cards. Best time ever.

I would look HARD at North or South Dakota first, but bird numbers will change yearly by state. The walking won't be too bad if you are hunting land with good numbers of bird. I have hunted public land in Kansas the past couple of years with my own dogs with decent success...

Montana is truly amazing. The only problem is that it isn't oceanfront.
First Phesant hunt was in Woonsocket, SD last year, cant wait to go back.

We have looked into South Dakota and plan to make a trip there. Found a farmer who does hunts and meals. Stay in the ranch house and literally walk out the back door to begin hunting.
And I agree, only thing wrong with Montana is no redfish/speckled trout or food that tastes worth a shite.

That's the way to do it, BTW my legs were blown by the second day, cause the old timers made me walk through the high stuff. So get some laps in before ou go.
Hands down the best thing about SD is the LEGAL road hunting.
