I'm having trouble copying and pasting the pic so I can upload it because of this stupid computer but just click on the LINK

You can't tell but if you click the pic and zoom in you can see the cat is just staring at the guy. I believe he was about a 100 feet away.

I'm still torn between wanting to witness one or not.

How fast would your heart rate go up if seeing one of these?

As long as it happened like it did to this hiker it would be a great experience. Problem is I won't get to choose how my first encounter will happen.

I would trust a bear before a cougar. Seeing a cougar would probably be a little more unsettling than a bear IMO.

So little is known about cougar behavior (human encounters, general public) that i think they are a little more unpredictable than a bear. I have told the story of a friend of mine who was stalked by one in Montana for a couple of hours. Freaky stuff. Still, would love to see one in the wild.

For sure, have read a few stories about people being chased by a juvenile cat who just didn't know any better. I've had my share of bear experiences so I guess it's just easier to trust because of experience.

Yep, read a story on that same forum I linked about a guy who was hiking off a trail I frequent and was being followed for over a mile. Guy was scared shitless....I would never want to be in that position but

frick that shite man. I remember the first time I realized I wasn't as high on the food chain as I thought when I was in South Dakota bow hunting for turkey and on my way to my truck, I saw additional footprints that were not mine...yeah it was a mountain lion...tracking/following me.

The other time there was a cat (assuming same one since in the same area as above story) that we saw on a ridge line being all low and creepy like, prolly 200 or so yds away...we left again and never went hunting in that spot again.

This reminds me that time Bigfoot was staring me down.

I said "what are you looking at fool!"

He just turned and walked away.
