AAU coach? Maybe. Street agent? Nope. His AAU coach may be telling him to check out the basketball route, but I don't see him doing anything more than helping the kid deal with it.

On the surprising issue, he is out of school so why would his HS coach know what happened and it seems like the decision was his own while at camp so his dad may have been surprised at first, as everyone was.

Texas was going to drop him if he took other visits so this shouldn't be a surprise.

Similar situation at Clemson causing a shite storm!

and these tweets from a high school assistant coach:

quote:

"man a coach today tried me and one of my kids.....oh hell naw. Stay tuned for something tomorrow. Weak add Clemson"

quote:

"In 8 yrs I've never steered a kid wrong"

quote:

"Clemson gon tell me I shouldn't have taken a player in visits...man they crazy as hell. A verbal commitment dnt mean u own a kid"

quote:

"Clemson with that BS, but I bet they let committed players on their campus all day any day....smh keeping it moving"

quote:

"they had the jump on everyone and my kid never wavered about his commitment. Even when he picked up Oregon and OKstate"

quote:

I'm obligated to my kids and their families first before any school. Lol I'll never let a school bully a kid."

quote:

"Idk what a school says, I'll will always take my kids out of the city and show them places they might never go again. It's bigger than sport"

quote:

"Well it's a unfortunate rule for them. Kids have once in a lifetime to enjoy the process. How dare you say they can't! Smh"

Here are the rest:

quote:

"I can't let anyone do that. How about them being committed to the kid and trusting the kid and coach?"

"however, they don't care about the kid or their environment. They are all out for self gain to boast themselves."

"the kid turned down Oregon and Bama. He was committed, it's unfortunate they had no faith. On to the next one"

"For Ike it's between Ore, WVU, and two others now"

"If he is so concerned about verbals seeing other campuses then why is he going hard after UM commit Kearse? Cant have both ways"

"Well to let you know he was not looking elsewhere. He's told Bama, Ore, WVU he was committed... But trust is a two way street"

anytime a recruit doesn't choose UT the "got paid" accusations start flying. I'm surprised I haven't seen them say anything about casino chips yet....

I don't even entertain the Longhorns and their accusations anymore. It's always the same thing. Best advice I have for them is this, if LSU is doing something illegal, call the NCAA and report it. You know Mack will. I'll take our chances with the NCAA.

False. I believe that Coach Royal would walk into Mack's office and slap the hell outta him if that happened.

Correct me if I am wrong but hasn't Mack Brown dropped every other player thats taken a visit after committing? I can't imagine after all these years of operating this way he'll just throw it out the window for one player

That has happened in the past but depending on the situation and the player, he has softened that stance some...especially
when schools could use that as a recruiting tactic (get a visit from a Texas commit and Mack will drop 'em)

Recently Hassan Ridgeway(2012) and Daeshon Hall(2013) have both visited A&M without getting dropped.

We were seen as "losing out" on out best players last year. This year the shoe may be on the other foot with those schools.

Some local Austin radio hosts are attempting to compare this to the Russell Shepard situation. Basically implying that Les Miles is telling him what he wants to hear in regards to 2 sports just to get him on campus.

They were saying how RS was immediately switched to WR when he stepped on campus until a caller set them straight.

Some fun quotes from the Texas boards:

"With its relationship with HS Coaches in the State of Texas along with contacts within the media, NCAA, ESPN, etc. UT can make it EXTREMELY PAINFUL for SEC schools to recruit in Texas.
This is what folks that think we will be playing Aggy again in the future don't understand- when Aggy left us for the SEC, they opened up the State of Texas to ugliness when it comes to recruiting. Consequently those bastards are going to pay for YEARS to come as long as Dodds, Cunningham, & Mack are at UT."

"Anyone else thinks he was not impressed with Swoopes this weekend and decided to look around for a QB that can get him the ball?"

"I've been a Cody Thomas fan since before this class started getting filled. I don't like the idea of going after a guy that looks like he is suited for the spread option when we're supposed to be transitioning to a power running team. I wasn't before, and am still not sold on the Swoopes take, however with all of that in mind, I still think this thread is dumb."

"I believe RSJ is listening to the sweet whispers of his AAU coach. And LSU is behind a great deal of this."

"Baylor is an Addidas basketball school. LSU is Nike. I believe RSJ plays for a Nike AAU team. I have a very strong reason to believe this is pushed by AAU influences. And the push is to LSU."

"Yes we are, but there is a difference.
Also, consider the new LSU coach. He played at LSU under Dale Brown. He also was an asst under Dale Brown. Dale knew how to play the recruiting game very well."

"Not quite the conspiracy theorist as some. With the shitty distribution of the LHN is there any chance he goes to LSU to be on tv every week. Also, if he thinks he's the best, and wants to be tested. Maybe he thinks shining against defenses such as Auburn, Bama, Georgia, Florida, S.C. will be more of a barometer of his skill set than going up against Baylor, T.T., Okie St., ISU, and Kansas."

"They are high on Mett but the short answer is they don't. That's what makes it so weird to me. You can't say with a straight face you are considering LSU because they will showcase my ability as a WR and they won't run very much. that's laughable. They could pull their DJ Monroe/Dontre Wilson conversation and say we will use you like we did Randle/Tolliver/Shep and see if that flies."

"What is the common nexus here? L$U, A$M.
Answer: $
Street agent and/or relatives seeking "extra benefits".
We are going to need to get serious with the under-the-table tactics of $EC/L$U/A$M.
We must have a conversation with the NCAA enforcement personnel to have any hope of combating illegal recruiting tactics.
Thomas, Johnson, Darius White, Rashaad Samples, RSJ.
There, at first glance, appears to be a common thread in these unusual developments. A$M may have gone to the Dark Side in the blink of an eye and is returning to the Jackie Sherrill era tactics."

"I just hope our fans show some class with all this, and don't cause any resentment to the university. I can understand a kid wanting to see his options. However, if he wants to line up against DBU good luck."

"Bummer. Doubt he ends up at A&M after their 6 plus loss season, but LSU worries me. May need Barnes to help out on this one. Lord knows he could use the help."

"It was in the early 80's that his uncle Eric Dickerson (also from Sealy)did almost the exact same thing to UT and went to SMU. He teamed there with would-be senator Craig James to form the "pony express" . They were there (or had shortly left before) when all the payola stuff came out, Bobby Collins got fired, and SMU got the death penalty for its football program from the NCAA. At the time nobody understood the sudden change of heart Eric had, but it became apparent as the years went by.
It is very likely something happened in Austin on Sunday that changed his opinion; it may have already been smoldering for days.
UT has been very fortunate to recruit as well as they have, considering how absolutely awful the offense has been since Colt was hurt in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena a few years ago--I mean its been the worst I have ever seen at UT. If its the same this coming year, the seams are going to split at DKR Stadium and explode like a volcano--recruiting will collapse.
Finally, a receiver wants to play on a team that can "get him the ball". If he has watched much film, UT is not that team recently. He also wants to play roundball, too, which is a pipedream unless he doesn't go to class at all. There are schools, mentioned in his mothers' list, that will accommodate that wish instantly. Although he is a tremendous talent, this may be a blessing in the long run. I think he's long gone."

"This whole turn of events just doesn't make much sense unless something significant happened for RS-J to decommit. It sounds like Bohls has been told the reason for the decommit but he cannot comment on the reasons at the request of his source (and I understand that). But Bohls does appear to think that, based on the reasons given for the decommit, that RS-J will land somewhere else. Jeff/Gerry, does this decommit stem from an outside influence or did something happen on the Texas side of the equation that resulted in RS-J wanting to re-open his recruiting (or are you at liberty to even say one way or the other)?"

"The LSU thread I quoted from is from April 20th. They have been recruiting him as a basketball player, and it seems to be working. If one of his relatives is sayIng 6 weeks ago that he likes LSU and isn't solid to Texas, then it seem a little less sinister, but even more worrisome."

"Honestly, if Barnes isn't willing to give the guy a look, it would be interesting to hear him justify it. If he costs us this guy and has another season in which he shits himself as a coach, I hope he's fired and sent back to work a gig at Lenoir-Rhyne or something. If this is Mack Brown being stubborn, then I'll go vomit and continue to root for his retirement."

He likes rettig fwiw. And for all the basketball stuff i had a friend play against him and Isiah Austin and said ricky was the best player he's ever played against and could contribute right away in sec basketball. As the other thread stated about him having a "hard on" for LSU is 100% correct. He knows his commitment to UT wasn't completely thought out hints the decommittment UT is still a player and will be until NSD obviously but LSU definitely leads right now by a wide margin. If he ends up at anywhere but LSU I'd be completely shocked.
