This has LSU implications. This article about the Hornets certainly makes it sound like CST is folding and that Cox is getting out of the this side of the TV business.
Which means that all of that LSU coverage will die with it. Now, I can do without the Sunday FB rebroadcasts, but no CST means that LSU would have no current outlet for basketball or baseball like they have enjoyed with CST. The Hornets will be on a Hornets only offshoot of Fox Sports SW, which means that other than Hornets games, Fox will still be Texas exclusive.
No regional sports network in Louisiana puts LSU behind the pack from other SEC schools.

The end of CST is near. Escalating costs to carry the Hornets plus the end of its LSU relationship (re: SEC Network coming) forms a double-whammy for Cox. If CST exists in two years time, it won't provide much to see.

There will be no FSN Louisiana. The Hornets fans who were following this were hoping that Fox would start an FSN Louisiana when they got the rights to the Hornets (which apparently has been a foregone conclusion for months). That apparently is not happening. The Hornets are being given to Fox Sports Southwest, and other than Hornets games, the FSSW we get here in LA will be the same Texas only programming.
The SEC Net will be a good thing when it happens, but that is still not a replacement for a Louisiana specific channel that will show weekday baseball games and throw away basketball games and softball games on a pretty regular basis. LSU needs to be preactive here and find a way to replace this local coverage.

This is going to hurt cox communications business in South Louisiana. Many customers will be switching from Cox to DirecTV for this alone and im loving it

Yea, people need to read the article:
quote:
Fox has not decided which of its RSNs will carry the Hornets, but it appears likely that Fox will launch a New Orleans feed off of FS Southwest, which also holds the rights to the Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars, Big 12 and Conference USA. After securing Oklahoma City Thunder games, Fox launched an FS Oklahoma feed off of FS Southwest.
Plus, other than the Hornets, what would FSN Louisiana broadcast that would garner enough interest?

The cable operator essentially has decided to get out of the sports rights business, opting not to compete with Fox Sports for the rights to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for a long-term carriage deal with Fox’s regional sports network, according to multiple sources.
This basically says they will not compete for sports rights and specifically referenced competing against FOX.
Assuming LSU regional coverage is going to vanish because of it has nothing to do with them not doing the money dance with Fox for the rights to the Hornets.
This article leaves no reason to fear LSU regional coverage is going anywhere.

LSU will find an outlet for future football replays and the other coverage, the Pelican network or someone will pick them up.

CST covers LSU because they own the rights. That is part of the "sports rights" business
The article is saying that Cox is getting out of that kind of thing altogether, meaning they will no longer own any rights to anyone and therefore not have their own sports channel.
Of course, someone else can buy those rights, but that will cost plenty of money. The kinds of broadcasters who do that kind of thing just do not exist in Louisiana. We have no Comcast here, and their bid for the Hornets was very lukewarm at best according to published reports. Fox has basically said that they will not do a regional sports network in Louisiana if this report is right. The other ones are based in areas of much larger population.
I just do not think that Pelican has the resources to do what CST has done, and without them, LSU coverage will suffer.

The football telecasts and baseball games can still be handled by Ronnie Rantz, Lyn Rollins, Ben McDonald and Bowser. They'll iron that out.
Those football replays were CST's biggest draws even over the Hornets.
