So when are Bauer and Rizzo going to be up?

Bauer tore it up in his Triple-A debut last night. The only general concern about him is his walk rate, but he's about as perfect as it gets for a pitching prospect.

Is Theo going to wait until late June so the Cubs can push Rizzo's first foray into free agency back to 2018? Will they wait until the second half to avoid Super 2 status? He is absolutely raking right now in Triple-A and has nothing left to prove at that level.

Brian LaHair is the making Theo's decision harder. I say bring up Rizzo for a cup of coffee during interleague play. Maybe he could play OF. LaHair's bat is too valuable to take out of the lineup at this point.

LaHair has nothing to do with Rizzo.

When Theo thinks Rizzo is ready, he'll be up regardless of what LaHair is doing.

You can always stick LaHair in a corner OF spot if he continues to hit.

ETA: To think that LaHair could somehow block Rizzo is silly. LaHair's ceiling is that of a platoon/AAAA guy. His numbers are simply attributed to SSS that he won't keep up. A guy that is basically a career minor leaguer isn't going to block the top prospect in the Cubs system no matter how well he is playing.

LaHair has no impact on Rizzo being called up...I wish Cubs fans would stop saying that.

Is he mobile enough to play the outfield?

Exactly

LaHair's success or lack thereof will have nothing to do with when Rizzo gets the call.

LaHair is a Garrett Jones type player - good left handed bat off the bench, can play 1B/corner OF, possible platoon candidate

Uh, what? Have you watched any baseball this year?

If he was a quad A guy, then he would not have this current run of success. He is not Brandon Wood. LaHair is playing very well at the major league level.

FTR, I never said LaHair would block Rizzo getting the call. LaHair's production so far has made it a more interesting decision for Theo in terms of what to do with Rizzo/LaHair. If LaHair had Soto's numbers, it would be a different story. LaHair is producing beyond what anyone expected him to thus far and is making the most of his shot to play everyday.

Do you know anything about baseball and prospects?

It's been a month and a half. It's called SSS or small sample size. There's a reason LaHair is just now getting his shot - he isn't a prospect or long term piece for anyone.

frick, you know how many mediocre big leaguers have hot months or two? It doesn't make them an all star or even a starter.

Like I said, he's comparable to Garrett Jones. Jones was seen as a AAAA guy, finally got the call, and destroyed pitching for the whole second half of his rookie season. He is now a bench bat/platoon guy.

LaHair is the same.

Get your head out your arse.

No it wouldn't

They wouldn't rush Rizzo to fill a need at a struggling position on a team that's not going to compete for the playoffs.

Rizzo we be called up only when he's ready. It has nothing to do with what is going on in Chicago.

Why can't LaHair be the next Michael Morse?

Just because he is not a top prospect does not mean he cannot succeed.

LaHair has shown serious power in the minors and it translated to the majors. Yeah, his average will come down and he will strike out a lot, but it does not mean he cannot be an effective ballplayer.

I know he (Rizzo) struggled quite a bit in his first stint with San Diego last year. Hopefully after another year of tearing up Triple-A, he can come up and have different results for the Cubs.

Pecto Park isn't exactly kind of hitters and he didn't have much protection last year in that putrid Padres lineup.

Kid is going to be a stud. His bat profiles very well in Wrigley.

Gonzalez has a rough time with power to right field at Petco as well. Rizzo struck out quite a bit, which is to be expected. Doesn't matter how or why he gets to Chicago, only that he gets there and produces.

I was talking to my buddy yesterday who's a Cubs fan, we both agreed that there a lot of bad pieces at the big league level that need to be moved one way or the other...

Keepers
SP #1 - Garza
SP #2 - Shark
C - Castillo
1B - Rizzo
2B - Castro
CF - Jackson

Dempster may net a good return at the dealine if he keeps this up. LaHair might get you a couple decent (B/C) prospects if he continues to hit. Soto, Barney, Stewart, Soriano, and DeJesus all aren't parts for the future. Garza and Shark are good rotation arms to keep around. Vitters looks like he'll never make it. Campana is a good 4th OF due to his speed/glove.

ETA: Castro will eventually get moved to 2B due to his stone glove

I love watching this kid play. He has the speed to beat out routine infield hits, bunts well, solid guy to have around. He can move a runner easily, or even off of a single can get himself in scoring position with ease.

BTW: Travesty that Demp has 0 wins so far. He has pitched really well overall.

He's been blocked. Derrek Lee then Carlos Pena.

Fokudome and Soriano who were making too much money to lose their job.

His numbers were way above average in AAA the last 2 years. Even for the PCL.

Maybe it is just a hot streak, but there is just as good of a chance that it is not. He raked last year when he got a shot too. He has not stopped hitting.
