I accidentally found this group (they have a cover version of whipping post) their version is just a instrumental version with trombones (no drums really) of the allman brothers clasic, however the original is much better. And out of curiosity I listened to the other songs of their live in new York album. I was blown away! It doesn't have all the catchy hooks (some do) that we have grown accustomed to in modern music. Instead it's just a collection of excellent musicians belting out top shelf tunes.

As a drummer it's a treasure trove of material. Check it out, it has a big band/broadway type vibe but really funky with lots of brass. Definetly original, highly recommend !!!!

I use iTunes so I can preview all the music

Dreaux, I'm one of the drummers on that record along with Stanton Moore. We cut it live with two drum kits! On most tracks, either one of us plays, but on several tracks we play together. Glad you dig it.

I grew up across the street from one of the guys. Mark and Craig both toured with Harry Connick's big band before starting Bonerama.

I heard them for the first time at Jazz Fest a few years back. That was the first time I ever heard someone use overdrive distortion on an acoustic instrument. It made for a pretty interesting cover of "When The Levee Breaks"

Thanks for the heads up. I am breaking it down now. Awesome stuff, these tracks are fairly advanced level and the drumming is superb. Funny someone mentioned harry connick, when I want to swing that is who I reach for (although art is a hell of a drummer)

Is bonerama local?
