I actually liked Red Skull and wouldn't mind seeing him return as a villain. Did they confirm he's dead?

I thought it was great attempt at a Marvel movie period piece.

Looked like he fell through a portal, possibly to Asgard. I was kinda hoping he'd team up with Loki in the Avengers. I think he'll come back at some point.

As much as I like Caps, and the movie, I do. That kind of charm and naivete' just doesn't fly. People don't like the "Aw shucks, bad guys are just bad. Go America." Attitude. The film did right by playing to the strengths of the character, giving him a very period-focused place to come from. Hopefully they develop him more fully in the next one.

I really enjoyed it. I think it did a really excellent job of telling who Captain America was and why he would volunteer for such a procedure and subsequent missions. The scene where he jumps on top of the grenade sealed the character for me. I know it might be cheesy to some, but I've heard stories from vets who witness men do that and died. It is in no way the worst superhero movie. The green lantern and Spiderman 3 were made the last time I checked.

Its was okay, they basically just used it to set up CA's presence in the avengers.

Exactly. If they would have made two CA movies beforehand with the second one ending with "the plane in the water", the story would have been more fleshed out. But, people who expecting "real world" WWII action set themselves up for not liking the movie.

I agree. I thought it was an awful film, by far the worst of all the marvel films.

Do you mean the Avenger-related films, or all marvel character based films? Cause if it's the latter, duck.

I watched the five movies leading up to the Avengers over the last couple of days, and I thought Captain America was the weakest one. I did like young Howard Stark and the story leading up to the transformation. I couldn't get invested in the action scenes in Captain America like the other ones though.

Rather than marginalizing those who do like the film (instead of taking the honest way out and saying, "to each his own"), why don't you enlighten us from your vast knowledge of film, comic books and art to the weakness of the film?? Please share with us your eloquent wisdom.

I think you are on to something here. His team and the whole feel during the WW2 scenes were pretty campy. But it is a comic book movie. And I like Tommy Lee Jones, but I wish Hollywood would get a little bit of a clue about the military for a change. He was obviously way over 60 and I guess he could have been a colonel but it isn't likely and even less likely a colonel would have been over this super project. Just my 2 cents.

Wow. Not to be contrary, but I thought it was among the best superhero movies I have seen. So much work developing his humanity. Solid working of Cap, and 100% true to the comic book. Absolutely loved it.

I also enjoyed the movie. I remember thinking the laser beams felt really out of place, but that was my only real complaint.

technically speaking he didn't join the avengers until comic book #4 when he received founding member status after replacing the hulk who left in comic #2. Iron man, hulk, thor, ant man, and the wasp were the first avengers, but I do agree CA kind of assummed a leaders role after joining the avengers.

Captain America is supposed to be somewhat cheesy... it's Captain America. If you want dark and gritty go watch TDK. I think it's very good, but the ending should have been moved to the credits (I think it was meant to, but Marvel felt otherwise).
