We are having a fish fry for the lady's graduation on Friday. Where in BR is a good, reasonable place to buy around 20 pounds of catfish? It doesn't need to be perfect fillets or anything.

Thanks!

Does it have to be fresh or can it be frozen?

This is my first thought too, but I was hoping someone might know of a place that was cheaper than $6/pound.

Ideally fresh, but if the price is right, frozen will work. We used frozen catfish last time and it turned out ok, but I don't know where it came from.

You should look into buying Basa it's a chinese catfish that 90 percent of the restaraunts are serving now. It's half the price and just as good.

You could check with Randy Montalbano seafood. Not sure how their prices compare to Tony's though.

Their website list mostly prepared foods, but they are also a seafood market.

This is just as bad as chinese crawfish. Places that sale this shite should have to disclose it on the menu.

Hi-Nabor. Sale this week on Guidry's catfish for $3.69 a pound in a 15-pound box. I assume that's frozen.

Thanks. Anyone have any experience with Guidry's quality?

Guidry's frozen filets should do you just fine ... way better than BASA.

Only a Bama fan would suggest that.

I have a buddy in Des Allemands that fishes catfish on the side. If you feel like making the drive i can check with him to see if he has any. If he has some it will be frozen.

50 lb sack of Ole Roy "chili" might be cheaper and taste just as good as a few cans of Wolf Brand chili, but probably not quite as "clean"..

Tony's is live in a tank when you walk in, none fresher.

Basa???? Taking food advise from a Bama fan is like letting Stevie Wonder pick out the color of your car.
