Just wondering what the consensus is on this place. Craving some good Italian food and I don't want to go to a chain restaurant. The menu and Urbanspoon reviews look pretty good and the food is very reasonable priced.

Just wondering what y'all think of it. TIA.

My parents have lived within 7 blocks of it since I was 5, and we've literally gone there one time. Soooooo many better places to eat in this city. Go over to Mr Eds and hang out with the old people if you're looking for casual creole Italian. Much better place.

It's ok.
Eat at Impastatos, Vincent's, Cafe Giovonie, etc, if you want good casual Italian.

Yeah, I've heard mixed things about Tony Angello's.

So what restaurant is the go-to place for Italian in Nola?

Personally I prefer Vincent's. Sentimental reasons, although the food is very good also.

If someone tells you Tony Angello's doesn't have great classic creole Italian food, you need to stop listening to their opinion on food.

eta: I think the standard "go-to" Italian place for most people is probably Irene's. A Mano tends to fly under the radar a bit for what they put out, IMO.

2 Tony's is ok. Sort of West End Cafe meets Italian. I've been once. I was not impressed enough to return, but would if I happened to get real hungry when I was within 2 minuted of it and wanted "italian" food.

Tony Angelo's is great. So is Vincent's, Irene's, Tommy's.

Have you eaten at Italian Barrel? I've wanted to try it for a while now. Hope it stays open long enough for me to try one of their $30 cheese plates.

I've wanted to go there for awhile, but never made it. Assume the tourist trade is keeping them alive.

Yea, I know 'where' it is, just not exactly where it is. I've never seen a stitch of advertisement or even a mention of it anywhere. Seems like they either get local word of mouth, or nothing.

ETA: Holy shite the cheese plate is $45 now. Wow, I have to give this a try. That's the most expensive cheese plate I've ever heard of.

maybe.

but if you would rather eat Two Tonys than you are an idiot.

ETA: Two Tony's used to be right door to Cafe Giovanni. Within 2 years of Cafe Giovanni opening, Two Tony's had to move. its not bad food, just not on the level of some of the top places. including tony angellos
