re: ANDREW TILLER Scouting Reports, Videos, etc

T-P interview:

What did Doug Marrone tell you about the Saints?

"He just told me it's a great place to work at and he loved the guys that worked there and I am going to love them too."

You played tackle right?

"I play guard, but yes I have played tackle. In high school I played defense and offense."

How did playing offense and defense help you?

"I felt like it helped me a lot because playing defense you have to have attitude and I brought that intensity to the O-line."

What height and weight did you play at this year?

"I was 6'5", 328 lbs."

What was it like to play for Doug Marrone?

"It was a great experience. He is an O-line guy. He knows everything, he knows what he is talking about especially when it comes to the O-line. He helped me out tremendously. And no, I haven't talked to him yet."

What did the Saints tell you? Do you want you to play guard?

"I will play wherever they want me to play. They didn't really tell me too much, just about the rookie Mini-camp in two weeks, but other than that I will play wherever. The last few years I played right guard."

How has your weight been over the years at Syracuse?

"When I first got up to Syracuse I weighed 408 lbs but that was because I had a season ending injury back in 2008, so I didn't play that whole year. I put on a lot of weight over that time, but once I got to Syracuse I took off 70 lbs in a matter of three or four months. My weight hasn't been an issue since."

It seems like you like to eat, this isn't the best place for someone who likes to eat.

"Yeah, I heard the food down there is really good."

How did you do on the bench press at the combine and pro day?

"I didn't do too well on the bench press. I only benched 16 times at the combine and 17 times at the pro day."

Do you take pride in your run blocking and do you think that is what attracted the Saints to you?

"Yes I do. I love to run block. I just love to get after it. I am a good pass blocker but I love to run the ball. That's just my thing right there. Run blocking skills, pass blocking skills, and just me as an overall person. No off the field issues besides that one a little further back and that wasn't my fault. I think it was a combination of everything."

Can you elaborate on what happened?

"About two years back we were out one night and we got hit by an 18-wheeler, me, Mike Will, Antwone Bailey, and Torrey Ball, but the driver was at fault and he said it in the police report. We weren't arrested and no one was hurt. The car was totaled but no one got hurt."

How familiar are you with the Saints O-line?

"Actually, we watch a lot of the Saints film. I watched the right guard, Jahari Evans, so I am pretty familiar with the O-line."

How can you complement what you have seen and what can you bring to this offense?

"I can bring that intensity that every offensive line needs. I am going to come to work every day. No days off

This is a similar bio to another mid/late round OG draft choice by the Saints:

BIO: Three-year starter at right tackle awarded All-Conference honors since his sophomore campaign.

POSITIVES: Powerful college blocker who projects to guard in the NFL. Plays with good pad level, anchors at the point or drives defenders from the action. Keeps his feet moving throughout the action, can slide in space and jolts defenders with good hand punch. Aggressive and opens big holes for the running game.

NEGATIVES: Lacks playing balance and is constantly on the ground. Seems overweight and marginally conditioned. Not effective off the line of scrimmage.

ANALYSIS: Possessing outstanding size and playing strength, Evans is a terrific developmental prospect. Needs to take part in an NFL weight training program and refine the details of his game, but could be starting by his second season in the league.

I'm excited about this pick, especially considering the connections to his college coach.

does anyone remember Jahri every constantly being on the ground? me either.... and at 6'4", 318 lbs. how is he overweight for G in the NFL? hell, they moved Herman Johnson to G from T out of LSU and he was 6'8", 350+ lbs.....

Conditioning has never been a factor with Evans... he has played in our system from day 1, with our quick tempo offense, and hasn't ever had to take a series off, nor has he looked gassed after a long series, that i can remember..... he also hasn't been injury prone, which is usually tied to poor conditioning.....

and last, he's one of the best OL in the league on the HB screen play.... he consistently angles correctly, locates his target and effectively neutralizes them to allow the runner to advance upfield with a clear lane ahead of him, with Evans, normally the lead blocker on the screen.....

so, now then, are these "expert" evaluations still valuable as a guide as to how well we can reasonably expect a player to be?

You're the one hammering on the Saints FO cuz they pick from their own list whether it jives with the most widely held consensus or not

wow.... "hammering".... really? questioning... sure.... waiting for them to prove themselves again.... yes....

"hammering"...

blues, i thought, of all the people here, you were different.... i guess i was wrong.... that really disappoints me... i'm not being an ass, i really am disappointed that you totally ignore when i praise the FO for their free agency signings, but if i say even as much as one thing questioning the FO for a draft pick.... this is what it is....

cool...

no, on this particular point... a guy is showing how a pre-draft analysis of Evans turned out to be not accurate at all. In other words, the FO due diligence paid off beyond what consensus or popular opinion might have been. You said they were resting on their laurels and went against the grain of popular opinion too much with the small school players. Then you turn around and criticize the so-called expert analysis.

I have no prob with questioning or critique of the front office. You may not mean it but your underlying opinion beyond the player or issue at hand seems to be negative or critical. As in, the this FO isn't good enough rather than I trust them even if I have questions. For me, they are good enough. I think it's one of the best organizations in the NFL right now (yes, even now). For personnel moves the past 6 years there are plenty I can knit pick about. But the sum total end result is good enough to squelch or dampen such quibbles. I was on the Haslett regime very negatively after just two years and didn't relent- they deserved it. These guy have earned some respect. Not to be free from discussion or debate but for the trust in them to be an overriding sentiment.

must watch video of coaches reviewing 5th-7th Rd picks and entire draft.

Vitt confirms they had "inside information" on Tiller from Doug Marrone.

For general convo- you can say it but according to them they did not reach for one pick. Asked specifically about "need" it was stated they weren't looking to specifically fill any need.
