Find a friend with a garage. Especially if they live near a lake and might get some use out of it.

OK crazy idea.

find a friend that can aluminum weld

Cut canoe in half and weld a bulk head on the cut end of each side. Drill holes in bulk head so you can bolt it together with stainless bolts and Wing nuts. Use neoprene washers.

It sounds crazy but the two halves would make a hell of a conversation piece in your apparment, it would be easier to transport, and if done with good craftsmanship should be just as stable and useful of a canoe as before.

I'm not going to take apart a Grumman canoe from the 70s.

The thing is still rather experience. They were one of the best canoes of their time.

I like your free-standing stand idea. I could easily make one out of wood. My only problem is to have a way to miss the TV as I enter and leave while carrying the canoe.

If I knew someone that lived about 200 yards from the lakes I'd totally store it there. I have no problem portaging a canoe on my shoulders that distance.

That also eliminates the truck cover problem.

Make a couple tall braces and place them on opposite Sides of your sofa. Place the canoe on them and let it be above your head.

This is if you are a college aged apartment dweller and don't care what it looks like.

Now that I've read the thread...basically what BP said.

FWIW, I can't believe no one here has suggested selling the old, loud, heavy, overly reflective canoe and buying a smaller sleeker and more practical kayak.

From experience if that thing has any width to it at all, handling it on open water with even the slightest wind by yourself is going to be a major PIA. You will wind up weighting down one end and it will spin on you with the greatest of ease.
