The piping plover is a bird that barely even ranges to the Outer Banks of NC.
The liberal Audobon Society has taken the freedoms away from visitors and residets of Hatteras Island.
They kill more thant they save, as seen by this video.
I am sure that with its wetlands and delta, that you folks are experiencing more than we are, but now we cannot even drive to the beach in most places.
They overreach their bounds and do more harm than good.

I didnt watch the whole video but some of their arguments make no sense...
"how do they know what's native to here" - really? thats pretty damn easy
"killing in the name of conservation makes no sense" - yes it does, if not there would be over population and result in killing

Are they closing the beaches totally, or just for vehicles.
They mad because varmints are being killed? Hmmm, that's why I like Delta waterfowl. KILL THE VARMINTS!

If it were up them the Dinosaurs would still be jogging up and down I 95.
The NPS has closedover 70% of all beach access. The Piping Plover doesn't even migrate this far south. It is a midwestern and northeaster bird.
Audobon wants to shut down all beaches.
As far as your "killing in the name of conservation" comment....doesn't make much sense.
........
Take the gator out of the swamp and have fun with your nutria pest problems.

NPS drives on the beaches all day...even in the 'closed off' portions.
How is my truck, which is less than 8 ft wide going to hurt a nest which already has a 75 yard wide berth?
Driving on the outer banks has gone on for years.
You'd have to walk 4 miles in 'sugar' sand to get there.
When the sun goes down, they NPS is driving, setting traps...but we can't drive along the beach and fish?

What the hell do alligators, which are managed, have to do with this bird?

yes because ALL predators eat what the NPS want them to.
They have a town hall meeting with the fox and tell him, 'hey, just eat the varmints but not the birds"

The alligators suck at nutria control
There were a shite load of them everywhere then the state started offering $4/tail
Now seeing a nutria is a rare occasion for me

yes....you cracked the case!
they are only eating the eggs....that's it. nothing else. in fact, if you wikipedia the fox...it only eats piping plover eggs.

I see what you're saying... it does seem like a land/power grab by the park service.
You got to fight... for your right...

Sorry, kid....but there is a lot that you don't follow. It requires applied comprehension...something that you haven't shown since this thread started.

There are very few locations where one can drive to or on the beach in La. Nowhere on Grand Isle. Fourchon has been blocked off for years. Rutherford Beach and Holly Beach in SW La and you can see all the trash left behind by slobs. I don't have any trouble limiting vehicle access for habitat preservation or environmental concerns. Park and walk to the beach with your poles. People have to do it everywhere.
As to the predator control, we've screwed up the balance by killing off all the big predators everywhere. Some of their solutions seem stupid, and may be ill advised, but they are trying to restore the original situation.

i blame it on the squatches. they like fried eggs i hear.

Clearly, f-ing squatches have proliferated since humans killed off all the black panthers, their only natural predator.
I am relatively certain you are not allowed to drive on the beach in Alabama or Florida. Methinks this protest is a bit overblown. I heard some classic "my grandaddy used to do it, so I should be able to also" comments. Some folks on here used to shoot 10-15 ducks with lead; does that means it has to continue forever?
The only portion of the beach that is public property in La is the part that gets covered by the highest tide of the season. Everything up to that is usually privately owned, and they do not want you driving on their stuff.

Only place off the top of my head I know you can drive on is Elmers Island. I remember driving on Fourchon when I was young, but not in years.
