He basically didn't play at all last season and has an increased role (POTENTIALLY starting) on the football team, have to think he is done with basketball.

Del Piero is a walk-on. Even if he's horrible, it's basically a free practice player. Why would you get rid of him, unless he has a bad attitude or something.
