Let's say the Hornets end up with the 3rd and 9th picks of the draft. The Bobcats end up with the 1st. The Bobcats want to add more picks and dump payroll, so they offer the 1st pick and Ty Thomas for the Hornets two 1st round picks. Would you take the trade?

Before anyone doubts the possibility of the trade. The Bobcats already have a young defensive PF they are developing and they need multiple starters. They could move down and grab MKG and Zeller. Jordan is trying to clear payroll and that would clear everything for 2013-14 (except recent draft picks). He could make a major move then with a young core.

The Hornets would gain a great player but also an awful contract. It would make the Hornets frontcourt even a bigger puzzle. But is it worth it to get Davis?

Short of Benson also buying the Bobcats and using them to subsidize the Hornets(think farm team) there is no possibility of this trade happening.

as bad as Tyrus' contract is, there is no way the Bobcats pass on a star like Davis.

Maybe Jordan doesn't want the pressure of the 1st pick or he falls in love with one of the other prospects and moves to get them. I know he is trying to clear the cupboard and dumping Thomas would be a huge hurdle. They could go into 2013 with about 40 million in cap space and that free agent class could be pretty special (including hometown boy C. Paul). It could happen..

I'm just wondering if the Hornets would go for it..

No. This isn't football. Plus I'm pretty sure Tyrus can be amnestied.

Why do we want a terrible contract? We already have Oak's terrible contract.

listen to yourself. Why take on Thomas contract, a well overpayed player that doesn't contribute enough, and get the number 1 choice when there's 2 possibly elite players we can get with the two top ten picks we already have. You sir, are definitely an idiot.

He's not an idiot, it's a tough choice either way. If you believe Davis is a really special player than you might have to risk more than you would like to get him. Some people would do whatever it takes to get him. That's why I put this idea out there. I want to see how far they'd go for him. As bad as the Bobcats have been, their management isn't going to give the 1st pick away, it's going to cost something.

Whatever it takes to get the 1st pick in the draft you do it, minus trading EG.

But Nobody is trading this years first overall pick.

I raised the issue of trading picks the other day in a thread. And I promise I'm not an idiot. Two top ten picks give you a lot to bargain with. I'm not saying it's definitely the right thing to do, but it's an interesting idea if you think Davis is the second coming. Now, taking on Thomas wouldn't be something to be happy about, but maybe you can move him somehow (no specific ideas at this moment, so don't ask).

Tyrus Thomas would be a 3rd string PF on the team with Davis and J Smoove.

It would jumble up the frontcourt big time. You figure Davis would be the starter. Ayon and Thomas would split the back-up. Smith would be used more as a back-up at Center behind Okafor. But that leaves Landry, who said he really wants to re-sign, and Kaman, who is the best front court player, and someone the Hornets can get value for (sign and trade). Or would they ship out Okafor somehow and try to re-sign Kaman. Just a ton of possibilities.

Also, if you take on Thomas, extend Gordon (max) and can't move Okafor. You really don't have alot of cap room left.
