First, there was some pain in letting Nicks walk. I really like Grubbs more for the price than the performance/price ratio of Nicks. If he coulda been franchise tagged we prolly could have gotten at least a 2nd Rder. That was a disappointment.

Today is another coulda that like the Nicks situation we have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. The Texans traded DeMeco Ryans to Philly for a 4th Rd + trading 3rd Rd spots. This will be a huge score for the iggles. It's exactly the same scenario as Vilma from the Jets to us but even better. Ryans is a young & great MLB. The Texans transition to a 3-4 reduced his impact dramatically. Even at his $6mil a yr contract that is still good bang for the buck. Maybe the Texans just wanted to get a deal done and not haggle with multiple teams. As said, some things we never know. IMO tho he would have been a perfect Vilma replacement/upgrade well worth more than a 4th Rder +. Hell, we gave two 4ths & a 2nd for Vilma.

Vilma or no vilma.....ryans or no ryans....as long as we have Loomis, Payton and Brees we will be fine.

I thought Vilma was a 3rd and 4th, not saying you're wrong, but I don't remember the 2nd. I thought a 2nd was involved with the Shockey trade.

Don't worry about not getting DeMeco. Texans followers, like myself, are happy. He's decent but not $6M good. Like Vilma, undersized, and once he got hurt, no longer has the speed needed to avoid blocks. Can't run around and make plays anymore. Trust me. No worries. In fact, if the Saints would have traded for him and paid $6 M, I'd be pissed.

another Vilma parallel perhaps, much more a scheme issue though methinks. Often premier MLBs just don't work near as well as a 3-4 ILB. He was weak to start the year off but was back to par by the end of the season.

Ryans isn't nearly as good as he used to be.

We can't trade any picks until we know the bounty penalties

And not a very cap friendly deal considering our finances

Maybe some of the problem is we cant propose trades involving draft picks until the league tells us what draft pics we have. What are the rules on them taking our pics if we trade our current 2nd and next years first? As in can we even negotiate with pics we may not have?

ETA: Just read Earl's post. He beat me to it.
