Why are so many so worried about the baseball team this year?

They've only lost 3 games, and this is baseball!! NOT football. These things happen.

Frankly, I for one, feel much better about this season than last, but what exactly are the primary concerns?

Worried about the hitting shutting down against decent pitching. I know there will be less hits, but we struggle getting 1 run against some who can hurl pretty well.

See last year. We had basically the same record & just swept the #9 team in the country going into SEC play.

I'm willing to wait & see a few SEC series before calling for anyone's head, but we'll dealing w/ rantards here. Not the most logical bunch.

there are some "signs" but i wont freak out until it actually happens. There are also some positive signs as well.

I think we top the 36 wins we got last regular season. We are 14-3 right now, with 8 non-conference games and 30 SEC games to go. If we go .500 in SEC play, which seems to be attainable given this year's pitching staff, that gets us to 29 wins. Winning the non-SEC games gets us to 37, but it is realistic that we could lose a couple of those. So I think we have a winning conference record (20 wins is an optimistic expectation). Then 6 more nonconference wins would get us 40 and hosting a regional

It's just the inconsistency with the bats (score double digit runs or less than 2) as well as the pitching (pitch a shutout or give up close to 10 runs) that has people concerned. It's mostly not knowing what to expect when the team faces SEC teams.

& those 3 losses could probably be blamed on 2 separate food poisoning incidents. Nega-tigers don't wanna hear that tho.

going .500 in sec play should not be acceptable at LSU.

Im not worried about the team right now.

It's irrational to be worried about the team until after at least a couple SEC series. That's what matters most and we play MSU at home this weekend and @ Auburn next weekend. These 2 series I think we should expect to come out of 4-2 and no worse. If we are 3-3 or worse, then I'd start to worry. Now that a proper change on Sundays has been made, we will see what each weekend brings. I'm glad the McCune/Nola situation got worked out before SEC play.

I'm trying to temper my expectations because of the way last season went. We were 16-1 and feeling good after sweeping CSF before Florida came in and beat us 3 times to open SEC play. Then the following weekend, we lose both shortened Sunday games to UGA and we are 1-5. Never recovered from starting out that way, even though we were on a roll to end the year.

This is my point of view as well. The weekend rotation we'll be throwing out there has me hopeful that we can, at a minimum, win 15 games and go .500. The lineup is still a question mark, and we'll need more consistency from some of the younger guys if we get to my optimistic 20 win mark.

I'm not saying it's acceptable, I just meant that at a minimum this team could go .500

Given the way last season went, I should see us struggling in SEC play so I'm cautiously optimistic that we get to 20 wins. If we come out of the gate slow again and don't win these first 2 series, then I'll find myself pissed off that this season will be another inconsistent struggle

it's the rant, baby! lose one game and the coach must be fired! baseball, football, basketball, doesn't matter. no losing or the rant fires you!

I'd feel better about this team if Mainieri would hire an immunologist on staff.
