Went to Stroube's last night and left extremely disappointed.

By 8:45 they were out of many dishes. No drum left, no scallops left, no charbroiled oysters left and two other dishes I can't remember that my girlfriend wanted to order.

We just ordered a few appetizers and left after that. And the appetizers - Stroube's roll and the duck and andouille egg rolls were average to below par.

I could hear the table next to us get turned down for their orders and they left without eating.

To be out of that many dishes on a Saturday night by 9:00 is strange for an upscale restaurant that wasn't overbooked. We were able to walk in with no reservation at 8:30 and be seated quickly. Poorly managed in my opinion.

Is this how Stroube's has always been or was it just a bad night? Since I haven't had any entrees is it worth giving it another try?

The last time we went, they were telling different specials to different tables. I overheard the waiter at the table next to us mention one I like and asked if I could get it. After an awkward stare from our waiter, he shrugged off to see if he could get "permission" to let me order it. It was 7pm. I can't stand when places are out of specials - especially when it's early and/or they make a big deal about posting them on Facebook - like Stroube's does. I did get to order the special and it was great, but still. I felt put off as a customer.

Never had an issue like that. That sucks.

Yes. Everything I've had there has been excellent.

Wow. That's bizarre. I've never heard of any experiences like that there, and certainly have never had any myself.

I have only had it for lunch.

Had the lamb lollipops as an appetizer and the fried chicken on sweet potato waffles with pecan bacon butter and cane syrup. It was pretty incredible for chicken and waffles.

I've only been twice. All was fine on both trips. The next splurge meal of mine in Baton Rouge will be there.

Well based on your responses I will give it another try. Not too many great restaurants in BR anyway. If I knocked them off of my list based on one bad experience I would be limiting myself. Thanks.

Give it another try. I went to Ruffino's Sat night for the first time. The place was stacked, as usual,I suspect. The service was excellent. The food didn't measure well against what I've had at Stroube's. I'll go back though and try other fare.

Definitely the closest to NO cuisine BR has to offer . I have dined there at least 10 times in the last 6-9 months and had great meals each time. Maybe a bad night, I would definitely give them another chance.

I usually go earlier and have never had a bad meal. Maybe they got a rush of business and ran out.

Not that it should happen, but Saturday night downtown had:
Cirque du solei
Puscifer concert
Boat show
National bowling tournament

They probably got caught off guard.

On Thursday Morning the chef sits down with his vendors and looks at reservations, checks out what he is expecting to do over the weekend and trys to order just enough...Not enough to get you through the weekend if you do 30% more than you were planning etc. It is called managing food cost. If on Saturday night at 9:00 they were running out of food then it sounds like they just missed it, or got it about were they wanted it. If you go to a restaurant without a reservation at 9:00 a lot of times you get bad service as well. Those guys start there weekend as soon as your arse leaves. You should have just waited it out and made it early to brunch!

It is frustrating to have a restaurant be out of several menu items, but on the same note, they have to do what they can to manage food costs. Opening Stroube's downtown was a huge risk. It's not like NOLA where they have weekly events and conventions that can sustain the downtown restaurants. At a location like Stroube's I'm sure they have to be very cognisant of food costs.

I'd give them another shot. I've been very happy with my experiences there.

You typed that poorly thought out garbage and then edited it, leaving in the bad spelling?

Biggest joke of an event I have ever seen in BR by far. I doubt this added 2 people to any restaurant downtown.

That's exactly how it works, and do I get points taken off for spelling fuctard? I hate the guy's who have absolutely no idea how the restaurant industry works and get on here and think they are some sort of food critic. Just because you know how to put chili on a hot dog at your current job doesn't necessarily qualify you.
And fyi, who's counting but you used poor sentence structure and incorrect punctuation...
