Having a get together with some friends tomorrow afternoon and wanted to get a sack of oysters to eat raw/fry, what have you. What's a good place to get a fresh sack?
ETA: Thanks in advance

Westwego fisherman's market. You can pick and choose and haggle really well there. (It has like 10-12 stalls all with different seafood vendors, mostly shrimp but they have everything caught locally there) You are practically buying them straight from the fisherman.

I called Big Fisherman's on Mag and they said $40 for a 60-100ct. Think it would be worth the drive out to Westwego, or should I just go there?

Cast net Seafood in New Orleans East. A majority of their oysters come from concrete grounds and are fairly pure.

That isn't bad, I doubt the sacks at Westwego are $25 (what I paid at the dock the last time I bought off a boat) they are probably 30-35 maybe close to 40. But I'm not that sure. I just usually go there for shrimp and fish and occasionally grab a sack.

I called the Cast Net. Awesome service over the phone and they have 80-90lb sacks for $50 which is about double the amount of oysters for $10 more than most places I called. Thanks for all the help.

Deanie's in Bucktown sells sacks for $35.

True, but that sack for $50 are probably going to be clusters and potentially larger than the ideal size to truly enjoy raw oysters. Tell them you want singles.

There is a place in the Harahan/River Ridge area called the Village Inn I'm pretty sure their sign said oysters by the sack. I've never bought them there. Also if you call P & J oyster house on rampart and Toulouse, I think they will sell to the public
