Beernews
I had no idea that all of their beers were lagers. I guess it makes sense now because they are of German descent but I guess I didn't pay attention before.
Abita is primarily lagers too, aren't they?

I didn't realize that either.
I think most of Abita's beers are lagers, yeah.

Haha. Yeah, this.
In other news it looks like I've got two new beers to keep my eyes out for.

Yeah, they did.
Hmmm, and the Shiner 102 was a Pale Wheat Ale. And the Holiday Cheer is supposedly a dunkelweizen.
Something's not adding up.

Sources could be wrong... lol that's why I threw a question mark into the mix.

This is their own press release.
Is it possible to use lager yeasts in hefes and dunkelweizens?

could this have to do with the old texas labeling laws going out the window? they can finally call it an ale?

I think it worked the other way around though.

Its common for germans to use lager yeast in the bottling process. Not sure I have seen it used in fermentation (for these styles). Many will argue that its not a hefe if its not from a barvarian top fermenting yeast strain.

Didn't we discuss on here before whether or not Shiner's Hefe was an actual Hefe?
Posted on 1/25/12 at 2:45 pm to LSUBoo
Not sure if I was apart of that discussion. Im not sure I have ever had a Shiner Hefe.

I dont think that it is a German Hefe but rather an American Hefe that is bottle conditioned. Their website does not say what type of yeast they use for fermentation.
