Good eye on the safety line...bad editing I guess:

that looks like the shadow from the wire he is walking on.

read my post

I did. That's why I said bad editing...that's the only part of the story that shows a safety line. Could've been avoided.

no, there is clearly the tight rope and clearly a safety line with a clip around the tight rope.

the average person wouldn't notice that anyway. an incredible stunt. and kudos to him for going shirtless. be comfortable. when you're tight roping over enormous crevices, nobody can tell you what to do

that safety line isn't there for the majority of the video... just for that camera angle

Google Philippe Petit.

I'd also highly reccomend watching the Documentary on him called Man on Wire.

He Walked in between the twin towers on a high line for hours back in the 70's.

I read something the other day that kind of fits this. Once you're up over 50 foot, the height makes no difference. If you fall the outcome is the same. You'll just have longer to think about your mistake on your way down.

The line on the tight rope is to keep the cable stable

I think I'm going to set up a tight line after the new year. I need to learn. There's a sweet crossing where I live that needs to go down. First thing I thought when I saw it, I have to learn to tight line and pull that off. No safety line either, except mine'll be 15 feet above water.

Wonder how long it takes to get OK.

You make it sound like you can do anything you want in a state park.
