Saw in the Times Pic this morning that LSU kicker Juan Roca passed away, but no details. Anybody know what happened?

Remember him well, but GREAT grandchildren? The dude wasn't even 60 years old!

I remember his first FG in Tiger Stadium. The guy could kick some long FG's. RIP Juan!

I think that has to be a typo(major one), as no grandchildren number is given which you think would be among the listed.

I well remember Juan - may he RIP. I was in law school when he kicked for the Tigers - he was somewhat of a crowd favorite, and he made some very long fgs. I think he set a record, but I'm pretty sure it's been broken.

My older brother was on that team, and my oldest brother was on EJ's team with Juan's older brother, Rob.

Both could kick lights out.

If he married while he was in school, sure he could have great grandchildren.

I've never heard of something like this. Is the family in difficult circumstances, or is this a custom of some kind?

Yeah, but I learned in high school biology that you have to have grandchildren before you can have great-grandchildren. No grandchildren were listed in the obit.

Sounds like the former.

Yes, Juan RIP.

Note: He was the first soccer style kicker and this was in 1972. In my home town, the high school coach stubbornly refuses to try & recruit soccer kids for place-kicking, so as you can well imagine, the place kicking at Big Spring High has been pathetic for a # of years. Even out here in West Texas, most everyone else has caught on.
