Rays lock up Matt Moore for at least 5 years

Huge move for them to be able to lock up a young stud like for 5 yrs at only 14 million and an option to extend to 8 years.

As for the 5 year, 14M part of the deal, they will probably break even at best.
The real value comes with the option years. If he doesn't live up to the hype, then they will be able to decline and get him for cheaper or let him go elsewhere. If he pitches like he's capable of, they will be getting him for a couple extra years at a decent deal.

Buying out his arbitration years. If he's as good as everyone thinks he's going to be, it's going to be a big bargain. I love the way they lock up all their blue chippers early.
