This defies all logic

If LSU wins the SEC championship, it means they are the best in SEC, that is, they are better than Alabama (not to mention they beat Bama head to head and in their house).
Now you are asking LSU to play them for the NC? If Bama could not be the best in SEC, how can they be the best in the country? I know we may have had instances where a team who did not win their own conference were sent to the NC game but they were not matched against a team from the same conference.

It's worse than that...they weren't even the best team in their DIVISION, let alone the conference.
