Okie State jumped Stanford in the AP Poll to move up to #3 this week without even playing and with Stanford winning convincingly.

This is very interesting and might take back my thoughts of Va Tech possibly passing OSU. Seems like the argument for OSU is already starting.

I agree, due to Va Tech's horrid computer rating I think it is truly time to file on the Clemson bandwagon and remove some of the clutter for the voters when looking for the clear #2

How far behind LSU is Bama? Did they get 100% of #2 votes? I can't find a link.

I really think the voters will put Oklahoma St over Oklahoma with a win. How pivotal is it for Va Tech to lose?

got to love the headline at ESPN " Alabama's dismissal of rival Auburn made a rematch with LSU for the BCS title a near inevitability."

Not so fast my friend!

The BCS show will be interesting. I wonder if they will admit that Okie State has a path to the CG?

They want it to happen. They are airing the game. However Yahoo Sports had the same headline. It seems the media will be trying to make a big push for it to happen. All comes down to the minds of voters now.

clear #3 is what we are shooting for.

South Carolina took it to Clemson last night. Clemson beat Va Tech in the regular season as well. We'll see in the ACC Championship, maybe Dabo will have one left in him.

Damn, Saturday is going to have some insanely high stakes games.

The will be ahead of Bama in all of the computers, which means in theory they only need 25% of voters to put them over Bama (as long as long as everyone else puts Ok State at #3 in their ballot). Ok State's real problem is Va Tech if they beat Clemson. It is hard to imagine ALL or MOST voters putting Ok State over the ACC Champ Va Tech - so Ok State basically needs Va tech to lose to have any chance.
Matt, why do you assume that a Va Tech wins hurts Ok State more than Bama?

This late in the season, voters really start to check and adjust. Watch what happens to Stanford this week.

Bama not playing in a conference championship will definitely be noticed during the conference championship games. A Va Tech win might put additional attention on conference championship games and actually draw more voters away from Bama rather than Ok State.

The truth IS, none of us really know for SURE that LSU or Bama are better than OK State until they actually meet on a football field. (Regardless of the subjective stuff...)

And that is the position I believe voters will take if OK State wins out.

Bama should not be getting any #1 votes period...there is no way you can legitimately justify your reason for voting a one loss team #1 OVER the UNDEFEATED team that BEAT THEM!

I think it would hurt OSU more because of the added competition. If it's simply a OSU/Bama discussion then the conference champion argument plays fully in OSU's favor, but if VaTech is also in there it's possible they could steal votes from OSU since their only loss is to Clemson vs OSU's loss to Iowa State.

If Va Tech won, they would have an argument - they won the ACC and beat every team on their schedule. But their computer score is way to weak and they would need to get 75+% of voters to change their mind and put them over Bama. I think that is close to impossible.

What do you guys think the probability is of Clemson being able to knock off Va Tech again? Seems like both teams are heading in the opposite direction since the first game when Clemson won and in their minds Va Tech will be up as coaching staff is sure to tell them if they go out and handle business, then they have a shot to get to the big one.

Seems like OSU will prob. be favored by around 4, and Tech by 2-3.

If Clemson can pull out a win in any which way, and OSU wins with style then I can easily see voters catapulting OSU up and over Bama to avoid the rematch and potential split national champ contraversy.

I don't neccesarily think OSU has to blow out OU but they have to live up to the juggernaut on offense hype and Blackmon have a huge game to have that superstar persona versus highly touted LSU defense on the voters minds.

When they sit down to evaluate the whole body of work of Bama, OSU, Va Tech, and Stanford it seems obvious to take a team with best computer score outside of LSU who is tops in their conference, and discount their loss in OT because of extrenious circumstances. Could easily see the media getting back behind that feel good story and drumming up a David versus Goliath national championship to avoid backlash from a national audience and other conferences sick of SEC dominating the championship game as well as backfire of Bama potentially winning and having split national championship talk again circa 2003. I think this could potentially break the BCS. As much as us LSU and Bama fans love the SEC and feel we are far and away the best conference in America, there are alot of national media and coaches with penis envy of SEC and think it would continue to hurt recruiting, rankings, and bottom line dollars into universities which is ultimately what talks if their is another SEC win in the big game.

Especially with the potential falling of the Big 12 with OU threatining to leave and whole Texas tv deal looming over other schools in the conference. The Big 12 will all get smart and get behind OSU knowing a potential win would go a long way to keep the conference alive for the near future.

Bottom line-Matt is dead on:

Clemson wins, and OSU wins in an impressive manner then they are in.

Otherwise, Va Tech wins and OSU wins then Bama more than likely gets their rematch IMO.

Never underestimate the power of perception of the masses who will be voting, just think there is too much at stake letting Bama back in after the way things play out and with the body of work they put together. It's unfortunate for them as they are undoubtably the second best team, but that doesn't always mean you get in. If they would have a bit stronger OOC resume then we wouldn't be having this discussion.
