TD Experts: Meyer's Offensive Fit

Do Ohio State fans still prefer the Woody Hayes style of power football much like the older fan bases at Michigan and Nebraska favor the offense generated from their so-called glory days? Certainly Coach Meyers will need several years, maybe more, to assemble his type of attack. I do think his hiring would lessen the recruiting impact of any NCAA sanctions.

It's Meyer.
He has Braxton Miller and some very good running backs. Plus a tight end that should be exceptional in his schemes. That's a damned good start to the offense.

For me, I could care less what type of offense we run as long as it is successful. I agree with VABuckeye, the talent that is there now fits UM's offense.

I always think of Big 10 football as more like Wisconsin, pure power and shorten up the game. I like Coach Meyer, glad to see him out of the SEC!

When he was hired at Florida "experts" here said he would never be able to succeed. We all saw he was very capable of adapting his offense to suit Leak till he got his players in.
That was RichRod's fault. He didnt/couldnt change his offense to suit the current personnel. That and the utter lack of defense.

His offense was garbage when he left. He would be smart to change to a more traditional offense at OSU.

I think the personnel is more suited for a spread attack anyway, with a mobile QB, a good tight end, and some smurf receivers who are better in space than in getting open. Honestly, it can't get worse than it was this year, and Meyer's teams usually play solid defense and special teams, which is more important anyways.

I know you guys don't want to hear this, but Meyer is not a "can't fail" hire. His hires at BOTH coordinator spots are crucial.

Is that what Meyer ran at BG? I know he ran the zone read option stuff at UF and Utah more often.

Coach Stud is an OL Coach at heart, not that he can't/won't adapt to the talent on the field. (Using JJ in the option and roll out passing etc)
But much like Miles, he would rather line up in a 2 back with a TE set and employ a power running game with the the FB leading and TB following him.
He is an Ohio native and may indeed have interest in joining Meyer but I think a lot of things in BR would have to shake to out for it to happen.
Stud got the OC gig in the middle of Aug practice when Krags had to step down. At present it is a battlefield promotion and no one has said whether it is permanent nor if he got a salary bump to make him competitively paid as an OC.
IF Miles wants him and wants to make him the permanent OC, LSU pays among the top in nation for its coordinator positions.
So the decision should he have to make one will be on where he wants to be and not about $$.
If Miles does not want him to be the OC in the future then I think he is a slam dunk if Meyer wants him.

OSU is almost perfectly set up to run Urban's offense. It's almost like his hiring was foreshadowed. The assistants will be very important for him at OSU. If he is truly going to tone down some as a coach that will affect his recruiting. He was by far the best recruiter on the staff at UF. He must be involved with heavily with the recruits. OSU will always recruit well. The one thing that OSU doesn't have that Urban insists on and will prioritize is overall team speed. OSU has plenty of fast players but they don't have the overall speed of teams like LSU,Bama, and UF. In order for him to win NCs at OSU he will have to build OSU like SEC teams similar to how Kiffin and Carroll have done at USC and how Jimbo is doing at FSU. If the NCAA does their job and hits OSU with significant scholarship reductions(at least 5 per year for 3 years,not the 5 total for 3 years OSU has already self imposed;They'll definitely escape the 30 over 3 years USC got) then it will hurt the depth some but Urban has always worked the roster well and will be able to win despite that at OSU.

Meyer should do what JT wanted to do and that's get the absolute best guys he can, then build an offense around them, with a bias to straight-ahead running.
JT failed miserably at adapting his offense in that way, but he tried. CUM I think will succeed.
