What was the Recruiting Buzz on Ronald Martin?

What kind of ceiling does he have? didn't seem to hear a ton of buzz about him in light of the big names we got last year but it looks like he could be a key guy the rest of the way.

i like to compare ronald martin to norman lejeune, blue gay, and tracy porter. these are all players from the "westside" (port allen, brusly, white castle) who dont get much hype coming out of high school, my guess is its because the high school football programs from this area arent traditionally football powers in the state and they remain low key to media and outsiders (but not always to college coaches). they dont generally get the star power as some of the players from big time programs but turn out to be great college football players.

Shay Hicks was a huge fan of his coming out of camp two summers ago.

Was by far the best player on his football, basketball and baseball teams at a small school (and I think he was a track standout as well). Attended a school with limited resources and never really went up against tough competition, so he's a bit of an unknown, but the sky is the limit.
From what I've heard about him from people from WC, he's a smart kid and it seems he's picked up LSU's defense relatively quickly.

well heard coming in to the year, if any DBs got their red shirt pulled, it would be David Jenkins at CB and Ronald at S. They were both physically capable of stepping in and contributing, and now you get to see it. This should help with Landon Collins as well.

If I remember correctly, word was he lit it up at camp and Cooper wanted him bad. That was good enough for most people.

I personally am a huge fan of football players that are great basketball players, hence I was really high on Martin.
This is also why I loved Claiborne 3 years ago and why I thought Corey Webster would be a star. The theory rarely fails.

Martin is a typical LSU/SEC athlete. Really sad to see him fail to redshirt but he is physically ready for play as exhibited by his first game against OM. He is a sound tackler and has good ball skills. Would not be shocked to see him get a pick or two with substancial pt. BTW, he will be a contributor for the roundball team after Jan. 9th.

Well, you never know when the mysterious turf toe or hangnail complication can land a medical redshirt...

He's very athletic, but it was assumed that he would be a definite redshirt guy.

This is Mo Claiborne all over again IMO.
Best athlete on the field in HS, didn't get a ton of exposure or recruiting hype, comes into his own in college.
Martin is going to be a very good player, as evidenced by the fact that he's already playing his way onto the field as a true freshman.
