starting off good with van alden

Should be good. Just wish HBO had gone in a different direction with the Nelson character. An Elliot Ness type IRS agent (yes I know he didn't work for the IRS) would be better in IMO. Nelson is a fn weirdo.

I never looked closely and just realized that Leander Whitlock is played by Dominic Chianese who played Junior Soprano.

i really like the van alden character. i think if you took out the strong religious leanings and understand that much of his vocabulary and mannerisms were probably typical of the 1920's, he might not seem like too much of a freak. it just looks that way from our 21st century view.

Dude flogged himself to a picture of a teenage girl
I'm pretty sure this behavior was frowned upon in the 20s, too

I can see him offing himself. I think Rose thought that was what he was going to do and traveled to see him -- surprise!

when i lived in new orleans in 2006 and i was in an apartment building with all doors opening into an interior hallway. some old dude in there used to self flagellate all night long in there, no shite. its not quite as uncommon as you might think.
to switch gears, i think margaret's little boy is going to end up burning some shite down- the foreshadowing to me is just too strong.
and this might sound weird, but im thinking jimmy darmody's character is going to be setup for a fall, big time. im going to go out on a limb and predict that he wont make it into season three alive.

None of that was normal in 1920 or 2011.

Episodes like this (that basically set the stage for the next) take a while to get going.
...but the intrigue is there.
It'll be interesting to see how the Federal charges play out, with the A.G. being blackmailed by the Senator & all..... Politics is a dirty game

Thank you - I couldn't place him during the episode, but knew I knew who he was.

He murdered his partner. He stole from the IRS to pay a whore to have his baby when his wife begged him to pay for a surgery that would allow her to become pregnant. None of that was normal in 1920 or 2011.
True but abnormal people existed then and now, and they make for good story lines.

Weve been seeing Uncle Jun but he never spoke alot till tonight. Love the sideburns.
Why do you think Margaret doesnt like the dude from Ireland?
I like Van Alden freaking out about the burned agent.

Nice table setter episode for the second half of the season. I may have been a little off on my earlier prediction that Lucky and Meyer might off Rothstein, but I was partially right. It looks like they are forging off on their own. As they hinted throughout the past couple of eps, Nucky's plan for the trial has fallen apart and he's in some trouble. Suddenly, he's back on the ropes and Jimmy has a pulse.
This week's ep was the first time Jimmy really looked uncomfortable with his mother kissing him on the lips. They had done that in front of others before and he had never reacted that way. Might be foreshadowing a tension building in that relationship.
Still waiting to find out what Slaeter's story is. There's obviously another layer to his character. Maybe he's tied in to Margaret's past or something.

I think she very much likes him but knows his type and it bothers her pretty deeply that she's drawn to him.
I'm trying to enjoy him while he's still around. I'm convinced him and Margaret hit the skins then Nucky finds out and snuffs his arse.

And I did some fist pumping at the Lansky/Luciano/Darmody hook up. Throw a little Al in there next week and I'm pretty damn stoked.
