When I was 8 I killed my first deer with a .44 magnum. Shot him in the side of the nose and it broke it's neck.

I have been interested in the 38-55 for a while.
They made a Buffalo Classic in that for a very limited time, but I've never seen one. They also make a replica Sharps in 38-55. Its scaled down just a bit smaller then 45-70.

Are they legal in LA for "primitive?" I think it has to be over .44 caliber.

I know Mississippi is >.35.

The replica Sharps are badass. I sold a few of them when I worked at Cabelas.

I was thinking the .500 S&W would be cool until I saw the ammo prices
And you didnt like the kick of the 45-70?

Anybody have ideas for bullet selection?
I personally like the 240 grain. I tried the 180 and didnt care for it. The 240 with the 44mag has great knockdown power.

I was gonna tolerate the recoil for the coolness factor, but screw paying $50+ for 20 pistol rounds.

If I get one it will be a .44 magnesium

ETA: 38-55 would be AWESOME

Shot a spike with a Python once(long story), tracked him for a long distance and heard a shot in the area. Lost the trail at which point I went back for the dog. He dragged me through all the brush he could and we were left at the same point I had lost it.
Hopefully the shot was someone killing and taking it.

Does anybody know how easy it is to get another barrel for a H&R handi rifle. I got one in .243 and want to change barrels for primitive weapon hunting.

I haven't found a way to buy the barrels themselves. They sell kits with several barrels... but no barrels separately?

I know you can get them. Maybe you have to get them directly from the factory.

Those are money! I load for mine and use a 200 gr Hornady 200 gr w/ H110 powder. A very HOT load that will flip a deer at 100 yards. Oh, I gave a few to someone that has a S&W. The loads like to break his S&W in half. My Blackhawk is twice the gun! Mine has the 10 5/8" barral. I killed many deer with it.
