according to Oxford dictionary...
Egregious-adv
outstandingly bad; shocking:
This much is clear to me: Ref did not use discretion in applying the rule.
So, what now: if a receiver that is en route to a TD looks a pursuing defender in the eyes and then rolls his (to communicate "as if, chump"), is that taunting?
Saying, "Pahsssh" to an opponent just before you score (with a wry expression on your face), is that taunting?
This was a douche of a call.
But, it's headlines for LSU and Wing, anyway!

can you give me a good reason for a player to do this?

Just take the ball into the end zone and don't say a word.
Let the scoreboard do the talking.

The word for it is "class." NOT the kind you "go to" but the kind you "carry with you."

I will say I really enjoyed when the announcers made the sarcastic comments through the rest of the game using the word "egregious" to basically say something was a bad call.

During the game, the head of SEC Officials released a statment saying it was the proper call. Why did they feel the need to do it?

My question is there were several LSU players in the direction Wing was looking, how do you know it wasn't a celebratory gesture towards his team mates? I surley wasn't any kind of a taunting gesture that I have ever seen or an excessive celebration gesture. If, like the idot Lou Holtz said on Game Day Final, its a team sport and players should call attention to themselves then why do they allow the players to have their individual names on the back of their jerseys and why does Lou talk about Hiesman Trophy candidates during the season?
