I've gone through two in the past 8 years. One was a Troy Built, the other and most recent one to crap out was a Toro. I'm thinking I need to invest in a higher end self propelled, mulcher mower. Any recommendations (other than those two brands)?

Was going to recommend something, then saw the last part. Good luck.

John Deere, got one a few months back. JS46, self propelled, electric start. Haven't had any problems

I have a Honda with the dual mulching blades and bagger.
Rear wheel drive also.

Can you buy John Deere products at the local Home Depot or Lowes? I see nothing other than garbage on their websites.

I've got a goat. Serves two purposes. I also heard you can eat them.

How much are you mowing and how much to you want to spend?

I had a 22" craftman that I never had a problem with I just needed something bigger but didn't want a riding mower.

I bought a Gravely WAW 34"

OK...thinking of going either Honda or John Deere. My budget is around $800.

I hate to suggest Toro, but I've had one for four years and it starts on the first or second pull, every time. I've never had any trouble out of it and I sorta keep it properly maintained.

Now, from when I was 14-18 I cut 3-4 yards a week and I had two Lawn Boy mowers. A bagger at first, then saves for a self propelled mulcher. I beat the hell out of both of them and they ran and cut great.

Honda-just realize that the more gadget features you have, the morestuff goes wrong. I have a 3 in 1 Honda SR22 that bags, mulches or side-discharges. It is on its last legs, due to the deck rusting out, but has worked for 12+ years. It is not self-propelled, b/c I figured that would fall apart. You can get a great Honda Self=propelled for $500-600, and maybe even catch one on sale now, at the end of the mowing season.

You can get the mid grade Honda for around $500.
Just make sure you get one with a 21" deck.

My Toro crapped out after 4 years. Main seal gasket and kill switch both bit the dust. I had to finish mowing my yard with a 1/4 inch of spewing oil on the deck and then had to pull the plug to get the mower to stop. $200 estimate to fix.

I use a Lesco 48" that I bough on craigslist for $50 with a blown engine.
Found a used 17 hp. Kawasaki commercial motor on ebay for $125.00.

It has the sulky too.
