that doesn't look too bad, no need to get more than a 4 core processor because nothing you will use will take more than 4 cores.

64bit Win7. I usually multitask steam, a game, MSN messenger, Ventrilo, Chrome, music, etc., and never run out of RAM.

Stout if you are really serious. Go pick up the most recent edition of Maximum PC, or go to their web site. They just had a big layout on building gaming PCs and even built a bad arse one for cheap. I have built 2 with the exact specs and parts they lay out and both were more than what I bargained for. Easy to put together and awesome for what I needed them for.

they are good for about a year until the next big game comes out and so much harder to upgrade. Sorry.

eh, in my experience you can get 2-3 years out of them at least... but then again I don't care much about staying max graphics on the latest games

looks like I can save about $400 if I upgrade my desktop though.. I'm exploring that route

Do you intend to overclock the CPU now or in the future?

I'll probably buy in October or November.. in time for Skyrim and Diablo III

but I'm still debating between that and throwing a little extra money for a laptop because portability is so key for me.

In the long run, you'll throw a lot more money because you can't upgrade a laptop.

I'm aware, but then again I didn't keep up with the upgrades on my desktop either, which is why it'll cost me around $900 to upgrade it

Kay, I was just thinking that you needed another gaming avenue. It's like you read my mind.

You don't really run out. But you are probably hitting the crap out of your page file if you only have 3GB

same as me. i could easily toss another 4 gigs into it but i'm gonna wait til i actually use the 4 gigs once to do it because RAM is always getting cheaper and cheaper. if ur trying to save money get 4GB of RAM now... u can always throw in another stick or 2 to add 4-8GB in the future, whereas the extra $40 is better used on better CPU or Graphics card during the initial build
