I haven't seen an AR thread in a while and I refuse to be outdone by the yak threads! I just got my upper in from Palmeto Arms and I bought Delton lower at a local gun store (easier than ordering and having to use an FFL). I'm using the video's on Brownell's website to put it together. The upper looks fully assembled. Is there anything I should do before I assemble the lower? Should I check the torc of the barrell/handguard? Any other pointers? I will post pics when I'm finished!

ETA: Here's the final product

Do you have a torque wrench and barrel nut wrench?
I probably wouldnt worry about really though.

Just watch the front pivot detent and spring, they will go flying. Put a towel over your head/hands to keep it close.

good luck, my attempts have failed

What i've learned:

its very difficult to build an AR from scratch using wood, plastic, and bubble gum

i hope you take that into consideration

Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick! The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that?

I would think the upper if fine as is if you bought it complete. For the lower you will need some punches, needle nose pliers, masking tape and a small hammer. Be sure to support the ears for the trigger guard. I just built a CMMG stripped lower and now just need the upper. I want one from palmetto but they always seem to be out of stock.

I added pics in the first post. I got a couple magpull mags and a basic quick-mount scope since the kit doesn't come with a rear sight. I need to do a good cleaning on it then it's off to the range!

I love Magpul shite... I recommend their MIssion ADaptable ( MIAD) grip. It comes with a few different inserts to adjust the feel of the grip.

Only way to go!

I've got a DoubleStar Upper and Lower. 5.56/Chrome lined Flat top upper.

It was like putting a model together. One hiccup was the safety detent spring was too short from the lower kit. Safety kept kicking back every shot. Stretched the spring a bit (like 2mm)...and now it's flawless.

Thoughts on picking one of these kits over the other (beside the obvious I would have to buy a lower receiver with one)?

The one mentioned above - Palmetto State

And one with Delton upper - Delton Upper/Spikes Lower

Lou - maybe I missed it, but why is the furniture different from the Palmetto pic?

Good question. I had some issues with Palmetto State and backordering as mentioned above. They offered to upgrade my kit for $30 more so this is the email I sent them:
__________________________________________________
No I have not received a phone call and I am extremely unsatisfied with your service. You gladly took my money at the point of sale and sent me an invoice thanking me for my purchase. Then I heard nothing for the next two weeks and have had no way of checking on the status of my order. Finally, I contacted YOU to see what the heck is going on and you tell me that the barrell is backodered which is completely contrary to what you state on your website:

"A: No, Palmetto State Armory does not allow any type of backorder. Our website uses active inventory control to prevent orders for items not in stock." (taken directly from your website)

But you tell me I can get a non-backordered barrell if I pay ANOTHER 30 DOLLARS!!!!! How about shipping the 16" barrell for no charge?

I found your website and ordered this kit based on the recommendation a friend who posted on an outdoor webboard. I plan on letting them know the poor service I received from your company.

I received my kit in the mail soon after this. I assume that is why the barrell and butt stock look different.
