BCS Sets New Bowl Dates Due to NFL Lockout

The BCS has picked new dates for its five bowl games to avoid conflicts that could possibly happen because of the NFL lockout. Here's how it looks...
quote:It's amazing how much everything revolves around NFL football.
While the BCS title game in New Orleans remains scheduled for Jan. 9. a Monday night, it could be moved either up to Jan. 7 or back to Jan. 10. Hancock said the Rose Bowl, which is not played in an NFL stadium, will be played on Jan. 2. The Sugar Bowl will be played on Jan. 3, which is a Tuesday, then the Orange Bowl on Jan. 4 and the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 5.
The NFL lockout was already looming when the BCS began planning for the coming season, so the organization listed two possible dates for the Sugar Bowl (Jan. 2 or 3), Orange Bowl (Jan. 3 or 4), and Fiesta Bowl (Jan. 4 or 5). With no solution to the NFL's labor strife in sight, the BCS decided it would be safest to go with the later dates for those three games.

This would suck.
I'm easily a bigger CFB fan than NFL fan.

NFL week 17 fell on Jan 1 so I think the Rose Bowl was on the 2nd anyway.

See what the NFL causes. A trickle effect...now I guess I'll be watching a lot more College football because it's going to be the only thing on tv.

The Rose Bowl has never been played on Sunday, January 1st. That goes back as far as Monday, January 2, 1922 which was the very first time that January 1st fell on a Sunday in the Rose Bowl's history. This isn't exactly uncharted territory. Same is true for the Sugar Bowl going back to 1939.

College football did right. They know they can't hold a can't to the NFL in terms of interest and TV ratings, even the BCS bowls.

If the season is cancelled I wonder if they'd move it back?

First, a football season without the NFL would get shite straight. Second, Saturday night in Tiger Staduim(in the dome) for national title would be epic!

Let's say there's no NFL this year. Who's the first gimmicky program to move to a Sunday in hopes of getting picked up by ESPN?
