Disrespects Drew Brees (per ESPN email).

quote:

“But now to flip that, to keep me motivated, I ask myself now can Drew Brees do what I can do?’’ Newton said. “Can Josh Freeman do the things that I can do? Can Matt Ryan do the things that I can do? So, I’m motivated to be what those guys are, which is be an excellent pocket passer. I think I have the attributes to do that.’’

I wouldn't consider that a diss on Brees. Brees can't do what Newton does in terms of running with the ball and athleticism. He also acknowledges that he can't yet do what Brees does in the pocket.

he'll be a bust. his style of play will now work. hes in for a rude awakening when he goes to run and gets smashed by ray lewis, ed reid, or any of the powerfull hitters in the league. OVERRATED

I mean he's right but that doesn't make him a better NFL qb

Kind of an arrogant statement to say, "can this Superbowl winning, pro bowl quarterback do what I do?"
I don't really care as long as Brees keeps doing what he's doing I'll be happy.

He's not disrespecting Brees, he's entertaining him, because I'm pretty sure Brees laughed out loud as soon as he read it.

Those aren't requirements if you are a great qb with control of the offense.

And, BTW, Brees can easily dunk for his size (and color). He's no slouch of an athelete by any means. He simply is a qb, not a rb.

Cam will learn quickly why the greats don't need to run in that way.

By the way, I noticed the badass didn't compare himself to Vick! Amazing how he picked the ones he could outrun.

he said it about every qb in our division. hes just saying he wants to be the top guy in our division. would you want a qb that doesnt have those aspirations?

Hell, he can be like Matt Ryan right now. It doesn't take any skill set whatsoever to choke.

Aspire to be whatever. But your actions need to show that. Drew or even Josh Freeman don't get on national publications and talk like this. But whatever.

Cam doesn't seem to realize that it isn't a question of whether those three can do what he can do as much as the other way around... those three have *WON* at the NFL level, with Brees winning a title, Ryan leading two very successful winning campaigns, and Freeman taking the Bucs from dead last in the NFC South to a very respectable 9-7 last year.

The kind of stuff he could do at the college level doesn't work as well when you've got a DeMarcus Ware and a Dwight Freeney chasing you down.

I never said you do, but the kid's right. He can run it and is more athletic than any other QB in our division, but he can't throw it as well as any of them (maybe Freeman)

he's just being cocky/confident, whatever.

he's gonna turn out to be just like Vick(falcons) and Vince Young... meaning, if he isn't in the right system he won't fully succeed as far as playoff wins and superbowls are concerned. He's waaaay behind Brees, Ryan and even Freeman. He just seems to full of himself to become that true leader like the 3 other QB's in the NFC south...but we will see. If he can become a film warrior and drop the me me me attitude, I say look out!

This is the NFL Cam, you can't win games all by yourself... come at us bro!

Eh, IDK. Freeman really impressed me last year. Especially that damn 4th down touchdown pass in our second game against them last season
