Thor Impressions/review

First let me get this out of the way, I have never read a comic book.
Now, I am a big fan of most of the current movies and have seen all of the movies that are leading up to the avengers.
The only background knowledge I had of Thor was that he is a Norse God.
Now on to the movie:
The action and special effects were as good as I expected them to be. Certainly on par with other superhero movies from marvel studios.
The humor to me is what stood out in the movie. Quite a few laugh out loud moments for me.
I liked that it was pretty clean, and a lighter tone to it. The costumes of the Asgardians seemed a little cheeky, but hey what are you gonna do?
Definitely a fun ride/popcorn flick that I would recommend to other casual movie goers.
To the hardcore comic fans I can offer you the knowledge that I went with two other guys that eat, breathe, and crap this stuff and they were very pleased with it. A lot of references visually and verbally to the comic franchise itslef. Neither one of them felt that marvel "ripped off" or "cheated" the comic book fans.
What were your thoughts/opinions on the movie?
Thanks an hope this helped someone.

"I'm big with muscles and a hammer!" (read in a thunderous voice)
How'd I do?
How'd I do?

When you see a powerful man with a big hammer, walk away carefully and try not to make eye contact.

If anyone saw it is 3D, does it make much of a difference or would 2D go over just as well?

It was better than I expected. So I'm going to see it again in 3d.
The story flowed well, and it never really hung on any parts. I liked how awkward he was on earth.
Do any of the comic book people know about the gatekeeper and his powers? He seemed like a bad MOFO..

In Norse mythology, Heimdallr is a god who possesses the resounding horn Gjallarhorn, owns the golden-maned horse Gulltoppr, has gold teeth, and is the son of Nine Mothers. Heimdallr is attested as possessing foreknowledge, keen eyesight and hearing, is described as "the whitest of the gods",

I saw it in 2D mostly because I don't care too much for 3D as it is right now. It was thoroughly enjoyable to me. Thor was similar to the first Iron Man, which incorporated humor throughout with pretty badass fight scenes. Chris Hemsworth was a pretty perfect Thor imo, something Marvel does extremely well is casting. Visually the movie is stunning, Asgard is amazing. The plot seemed a little jumbled or sometimes rushed, but it did not take away from the movie at all. If you enjoy seeing movies, I say go see it.

I've been reading other reviews and pretty much all have said don't bother with 3D and to go see it in 2D. They say it doesn't really add to the movie.

I liked the gatekeeper too.
SPOILERS
I lol'd when he gave in comically quickly over letting the 4 enter the gate after expecting a huge tongue lashing.

Loved it! Thought it was better than iron man. I didn't expect to be so impressed. Maybe it was because he was so cute? My 3yr old loved it too. No blood or sex, should have been pg.

I laughed at the Stan Lee cameo, trying to pull the hammer out..
