I think we've distilled the correct analogy

I somehow still feel we are more akin to the postmodern dramatists, Beckett and Stoppard, among others, who have so accurately expressed our longing in Waiting for Godot, and perhaps more apt and apropos, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

Today I will walk around the city in a way not dissimilar to the protagonist of Peter Handke's The Afternoon of the Writer, where abstract apparitions such as loneliness become characters unto themselves.

The play is absolutely superb. Stoppard is my favorite dramatist, and it is only because of his plays that I can forgive the oddity that was Shakespeare in Love.

Friend, if you are indeed quoting back to me the words of Beckett's opus, The Unnameable, then all is forgiven and Lucas is slightly less an a-hole.

I figured it was an approriate quote, given the circumstances of the day

NO DOUBT. Arsenal domiated the match(as usual)and didn't close the deal. Pool deserved the point based upon injuries alone. Gritty performance by Pool, good to meet Bleed today. Eboue just needed to shadow Lucas and the match is over. It was 11 minutes of stoppage and it would have been over. Heartbreaking as usual.

Liverpools back four played well for being makeshift, but they also played 9-10 behind the ball, making things like 1v1 challenges to test the true steel of a back line damn near impossible.

Agreed. What else were they supposed to do in the situation? They played for a draw and got it.

wtf happen? my dvr cut off before pool took that free kick.

I may get blasted but im ready to see fabregas go. His play is too inconsistent to deserve the praise he has been getting. His play doesnt warrant a starting role in barcelona.

So what do you call fabregas? I mean it's not like he was looking for a penalty too? Try not being a biased a-hole when you talk about these things...

These are my thoughts exactly. I was pissed when he went down cus at first i thought it wasnt going to be given. Stand up and play the game. O and if he had made the best out of his chances in the first half and didnt make shitty passes, Arsenal never would have been in this mess.

(directions are from the liverpudlian perspective)

suarez took the free kick. free kick was predictably poor and was deflected left. lucas won the ball outside of the six yard box and pushed it wide. he went to shield the ball (wasn't necessary. clearly, it was to draw contact), and eboue clumsily knocked him over. penalty awarded. kuyt knocked it about hip high to the right corner. goal

when i played, i found that some referees were on some bullshite. sometimes, they would not give a foul for an offense similar to that if you did not go to ground. if you are getting fouled in the box, you go down. full stop. if you don't, you run the risk of playing a shitty ball affected by the foul and won't get the call.

i feel you, but sometimes i feel like the player is looking for the penalty first and not even worried about scoring or passing the ball off. So they put themselves in a situation where no matter what they are losing the ball, just depends if the ref calls for the spot or not.

But fabregas played, and we still see the same results. A top notch player doesnt have the ball come to him in the box with a wide open shot and not be ready for it. Bollocks

yeah, i don't really disagree with that. i just think that all of this is an extension of the way that referees call fouls in the penalty box. i think that both of the penalties were clear penalties, but the movements were made with the results (penalties) in mind.

oh well another season without a trophy. Most likely they wouldnt have won it, but with a game against man u and them having tuff games ahead and having the champions league it wasnt far fetched.
