He wasnt highly rated at all.I think he moved to 4 star after we offered. And werent we the first SEC school to offer him?

I have confidence in our recruits without worrying about stars.

No. He blew it up at the Tennessee camp and was offered first by Hello Kiffin and co.

Yes.

But because he rarely touched the ball — or had it thrown his way — as a prep star, Mathieu needed to make up ground on the recruiting circuit, where he used his performance at an LSU camp last summer to land his first BCS scholarship offer.

Mathieu quickly committed
, then made 32 tackles and five interceptions as a St. Augustine senior.

Now, he’s turning heads on the LSU practice fields.

He blew up at UT and UT still didnt offer. We were first I Think. UTs fans were pissed they didnt offer him. Wouldn't have mattered though, Mathieu from St Aug = Frank Wilson lock.

Janzen Jackson needed to be there taking notes. TM made more plays as a fresh than Jackson will his entire career at UT.

Basically when he shut Jarvis Landry down at camp the offers started coming.

That's not correct. It was most definitely a Tennessee camp where he "used his performance" to "land his first BCS scholarship offer".

I remember watching video from that UT camp and thinking...who the hell is that little guy? He had incredible cover skills...great hips...and great ball skills...he dominated.

That's why im excited about guys like Micah Eugene...I trust the coaches

He blew up at that camp but didn't leave with an offer. I remember the UT fans were bitching about it. We offered shortly after. From my deteriorating memory of course...

edit: that article is wrong...close, but wrong.

Take it up with Tyrann, LSU & the Advocate. He did not leave Tennessee with an offer, which was the question asked by the thread starter.

Somebody on this board referred to him as the top recruit in the state before he played a down for LSU.

Janzen Jackson is very good. He will get his share of plays. Wish he was playing for the Fighting Tigers (but not with all the BS surrounding him).

In my opinion, just based on what I saw toward the end of 2010 Eric Reid will be All-American before leaving LSU. I think he'll have the football fans saying "Chad who.." after the 2011 season.

Micah Eugene and the other dbs in this class will have a hard time getting pt, unless they are total studs day 1. At 6'1" I would think Jenkins has the best chance at any real pt.

If Hatcher moves to LB could help get some of the newbies on the field.

Resshirting a few of these new db signees wouldn't be that bad in my opinion since we're so young overall in the Defensive Backfield: Simon -SO, Claibrone - Jr, Mathieu - SO, Reid - SO, Loston - SO, Taylor - Sr, Hatcher(?)- SR.
