Les, after Gary leaves, go ahead & make the call to Paul Chryst

And tell him he can bring Bob Bostad with him
His offensive philosophy meshes well with Les' and he has been successful everywhere he has been
In 2004, (the year before he arrived), Wisconsin ranked:
52nd in rushing
103rd in passing
93rd in total offense
96th in Scoring
In 2005, in his first season, Wisconsin improved to:
37th in rushing
50th in passing
45th in total offense
14th in Scoring
Since, then Wisconsin has gotten better each year running the ball and has been pretty consistent with their production.
2006:
37th in rushing
50th in passing
35th in total offense
26th in Scoring
2007:
21st in rushing
72nd in passing
46th in total offense
49th in Scoring
2008:
14th in rushing
84th in passing
37th in total offense
47th in Scoring
2009:
15th in rushing
65th in passing
30th in total offense
25th in Scoring
2010:
12th in rushing
75th in passing
21st in total offense
5th in Scoring
And his offenses eat up the clock, which is one way to battle all those spread offenses. It keeps them off the field, plus it rests your defense by also keeping them off the field
Here is where Wisconsin ranked in Time of Possession:
2005: 20th
2006: 3rd
2007: 1st
2008: 37th
2009: 1st
2010: 6th

Chryst's Bio
He was also OC at Oregon State.:
quote:
Chryst was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oregon State in 2003-04. He helped the Beavers rank No. 6 nationally in passing yardage per game (328.1). The 2003 Beavers became the first team in NCAA Division I history with a 4,000-yard passer, 1,500-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers. Among the Oregon State stars he coached were RB Ken Simonton, the school's career rushing leader, QB Derek Anderson (now with the Cleveland Browns), who left as the Pac 10's No. 2 career passing leader, RB Steven Jackson (now with St. Louis Rams), a 2004 first-round draft choice, and TE Tim Euhus, a fourth-round pick of Buffalo in 2004 who is now with Arizona.

i think chryst is willing to leave, from some reports he was going to take OC job at Texas until haywood was fired at pitt and they wanted to interview him, then mack went with harsin.
Posted on 1/12/11 at 12:54 am to LSUfroshy19
Rumors are Garrett was looking at him as the next QB coach for the Cowboys, so he must have some pretty good knowledge in working with QBs

yea but i doubt he jumps to NFL, his name has been brought up for several HC jobs for the last two years, he already has NFL experience and i think the only other jump he makes is for a major program such as texas or LSU.

Yes Yes. he would be my number 1 guy. he is to power football, what Malzahn is to the spread. Watch a Wisconsin game and just look at the run plays and the play action off of it. Beautiful

Hes solid. Hate to see him leave Madison. All the pieces seem to be falling into place for a hell of year

He seems like a Jim McElwain clone. This year's Wisconsin team reminded me a lot of '08 Bama only they were infinitely better in the red zone.

I would like this hire on both fronts (OC and O-line coach)
I wonder what his offense would look like with the skill players the state of Louisiana produces.

Lol Texas missed out on both of them (word is that Mack Brown decided to move on after Chryst interviewed for the Pitt job) although he had already interviewed with Tx and probably had an offer. So these two are eyeing a HC job and an OC job respectively and probably wouldn't last more than one season @ LSU.

interesting verrrrrrrrrrrry interesting

all very true
Mack treated his potential OC like he treats recruits. Chryst had an offer, he expressed interest in at the least interviewing for the Pitt job, Mack pulled the offer

that's also a very good point, and highly likely
my hope is that Stanford doesnt promote from within, and we get their OC and OL coach

But what happened in the rose bowl? was tcu D that good or poor execution? imo gonzales deserves a chance. heard he did alot with game plan for cotton bowl.

those passing #s are concerning, but I guess that's to be expected with the rushing totals, he and Les obviously see eye to eye.
My only concern is how long would he be here? He's obviously a bit of a rising star. I know that's not supposed to scare you off, but it does when we're talking about installing an offense.

Paul Chryst would be perfect. We'd be a Big Ten style team but with waaaaayyy better athletes.
Line up, smash the ball with our big backs and huge oline and then go over top with our speed guys.
It's something we have the athletes for and it's what Les really wants to do.
I don't understand why you would run of GC and then hire Kragthorpe. He's another spread guy. At least that's what I remember with Tulsa and Louisville.

They are a run first offense so they aren't that surprising, but yeah, they aren't great rankings
BUT, the time of possession numbers more than make it for it
Wear the opposing team's defense while your's rest up

Unfortunately for him, Bret Bielema is only 40. It might be a while

not anytime soon, Bielema should be there a while

I completely agree. David Shaw and Greg Roman would be my top choice for OC and OL.
