Well it was a spectacular opening weekend for us down South. Saturday we had our 3 man limit of consisting of
4 Pintail
3 weidgon
3 grays
8 teal

in 30 minutes. Sunday was a little slower but still a great hunt

2 mottled ducks
4 grays
1 spoonie (oops)
11 teal

Then we hammered the trout Saturday afternoon. It was as good an opener as I can remember since maybe the 2000 seson. If this year turns out like that I think we will all be VERY happy!

We hammered the trout Friday and Saturday afternoons

Saturday we had some trouble getting the greys to decoy but we did ok:

7 greyducks, 1 greenwing, 1 spoonbill

Sunday we had lots of fog. Teal kept pouring in early and we only saw 3 grey ducks total.

Ended w/ 12: 3 greys, 1 ringneck, 8 teal (7 GW)

When I asked somebody the other day what "gray" ducks were, they said widgeon. I'm confused, I've never heard of a gray duck up here...

I see.
Oh, and we just call shoveler's shite ducks, along with a lot of other ducks.
Good/big ducks are mallards and pintails for the most part. Gotta keep it simple

Damn, I've never heard of anyone eating coot. Hell, we don't even shoot them if they swim through the decoys...

Wow. Just about everyone down here eats them. Some people eat the gizzards too. not me. But we usually let them swim, live decoys. But opening weekend we wanted to shoot. Theres literally thousands upon thousands on our leases. We run them over in the boat sometimes so we'll swing around and pick them up.
