I can't decide. Psych is more fresh on my mind so I have more to go on. I googled the battle and someone brought the issue of whether or not they can use their assistants (Gus vs. Sharona/Natalie). Shawn definitely wins if assistants aren't allowed, but that doesn't really deal with the issue of detective skills.

Shawn gets competitive when matched up against other people on the case (as shown a few times this season). Could imagine the shite he would pull that would make Monk go apeshit? Shawn would put him in the nut house. Gus gets mad at Shawn and he's about 1/1000th as anal-retentive/obsessive compulsive.
Shawn would just walk up to him and lick his face or something and Monk would be rendered useless.

Correct. Monk would be lucky to last 5 minutes.
A better competition would be Spencer vs. Simon Baker from the Mentalist.

I think Monk might figure it out first, but Shawn would beat him to the punch because Monk would be too busy looking for wipes. (And I say this with a lot of affection for Monk; he was one of my favorite TV characters of the last decade.)

i would say spencer; however, what is the price for winning if your secret gets let out the bag? Monk would bust Shawn for not really being a psychic.
I haven't watched psych in a while so i am assuming that thats still unknown to most of the cast that he's not really psychic.

Is it just me or was Shawn better in the beginning? Like you said he screws up a lot lately. IIRC he used to figure it out half way through an episode then gather the evidence the rest in order to prove it. Now he doesn't figure it out till the last minute.
Also, a Tony Shaloub guest star appearance (while staying in Monk character) on Psych would be an episode for the ages.
