I tried emailing the specific NWR and got no response. The WLF regulations guide isn't clear about it either. TIA

I know you can't on Federal properties (Bayou Cocodrie-Ferriday), but I think you can on WMA's.
Kisatche, I hunted a few years ago and they allowed lead shot.

Kisatche,

This is national forest for the record, and yes, you can use lead shot here.

Unless it has some how been implemented without my knowledge, it is legal to use lead on WMAs. It's been probably 5-6 years since I squirrel hunted on a WMA, but it was legal at that time. NWR's are different and to the best of my knowledge, you must use steal shot.

While we're on the subject, I was in Cali a couple weeks ago and they had some newspaper articles about outlawing all lead bullets due to the condors eating lead bullets and dying. I really have mixed emotions about this, but it seems that the lead bullets could be banned only in the areas the Condors live. Just a random thought there. Really don't know why I brought it up.

I don't hunt public land in LA anymore b/c of this. California & Connecticut(of all places) have laws that are promulgated and make sense. The game wardens actually want you to have a good, successful hunt.In LA they are in the business of harassment and writing tickets.

Not really, fishing weights are on that list too. There's a thread on it here, I think.

Doesn't it depend on whether it's a designated wetlands area?

that may be the case for NWRs, but I spoke to my cousin who is a WLF officer and he said most every WMA in louisiana allows lead.

If you are going to go to lets say cat island. You can only use steel or any non-toxic load.
