So I stupidly shot a 300 twice yesterday with no ear plugs....there is still a slight pressure and a ringing when the room is silent.....how long has that taken you to go away, and has it been permanent for any of you all...?

I have a Browning Bar II Safari with a boss on the barrel. NEVER shoot anything like that without hearing protection. I swear will never buy another one.

You might really have permanent damage. I used to shoot competition shotguns and had the earplugs that mold to your ear. If you don't have permanent I recommend that you get them.

May be permanent. I shot my brother-in-law's Colt Python a few years ago w/o ear protection and the ringing never completely went away.

I shot a 44 mag revolver once and turned my head opposite as if to look away while i pulled the trigger. Mistake ,I caught the full blast in my right ear and dropped to my knees in agony. If someone spoke loud my ear would crackle like a blown speaker. Went to ENT dr and she said i had knocked all the fluids down into my cochlea and almost blew my damn ear out. Took a week or so but one day the pressure went away like water draining out after swimming and i was good.

For what it's worth, I just got some doublesided ear plugs, supposedly regularly used by the military, for my hunting/clays shooting. With one side in, it's pulse protection (shotgun blast only but can still hear fairly well for conversation). With other side in they're fully muffled for applications like machinery operation, etc. Can get them very cheap on ebay and other stores online. Then again, any type of ear plug is better than none. Hope your hearing improves.

I really am surprised mine aren't messed up. I use hearing protection for target practice and sighting in but never have any on me while hunting.

My ears have been ringing for about 30 years. You get used to it.

You broke the cardinal rule! Never ask a board about a medical problem b/c all you get is everyone's horror stories.
It's called Tinnitus and often goes away after a while. Repeated exposure can cause long-term damage

I thought I saw something on TV that may be able to help with the symptoms.

Definitely see a ENT specialist on this one.

I've rang my ears several times. Worst time was shooting a rifle off of my tail gate to sight it in. Forgot my ear plugs but since I was about 30 min from home decided to shoot anyway. SHot about 6-7 times and ears were ringing for the rest of the day and could barely hear for rest of the day. SHot echoes bad off of a truck bed. Don't recommend anyone doing that without ear plugs.

Might have been a contributing factor.

I grab a handful of the foam plugs from work and make sure my boys have a couple pair in their pocket at all times hunting, on the range where we are going to be shooting a lot, double over with muffs. Shooting a .300 Win Mag out of a Texas box stand without protection (like a dumbass right out of college) did me in years ago. Have to sleep with white noise now because all I hear is ringing otherwise.
